Yes, I know I can drive autobahns and have done a lot of that, However, will be shipping a car from Canada into Hamburg or Bremerhaven for a tour,( probably Hamburg) but will be driving mainly in Italy and Austria, only making the longer trek to return to the Nürburgring. I have never thought of a tran. Probably not an option but thought I would see for the PH collective has any information.

There is a car-train which runs from Hamburg-Altona to Lörrach (Swiss border near Basel). It's been taken over by a private company and by all reports runs better than DB. However you'll have to check on times and prices (used to be very pricey!)

Seeing mention of Italy - we have just got back from a holiday over in southern Germany - and one day ventured down the Brenner Pass into northern Italy. I did notice a load of lorries loading onto a train in that area as a means of travelling presumably south into Italy.
Might be worth a Google.
