Paid a tenner in Tesco,

pretty decent, went well with the lamb.

I did like the Ink but for me it is a good wine to pair with food, as a red for drinking I found a Nugan estate Zinfandel, very easy on the palette.

I really like a Barbera and Sainsburys own Taste the Difference for about £8 is a very nice drop.

Evening fellow tightwads. I’m on a £7 South African pinotage this weekend (it’s fair trade, man’s ethical innit). I literally mean weekend too; a bottle lasts me Friday, Saturday and Sunday and it’s made something very apparent - are the treasures of our budget only truly discovered with some good airing? Tonight’s glass is nothing like last nights was, it’s far nicer and this is something I’m continually noticing with pretty much every bottle of this price band i drink over a weekend. Anyone else find this?

Absolutely. After recent mitral valve repair and a father of a 4 week old a bottle will last me 4 nights. If I want to have the first glass on a Friday i will open on a Thursday.

Cross quoting from the 'Tesco wine - what's good?' thread, this has been recommended a lot too, I've got one, not opened it yet. Website says it's out of stock but I picked up a bottle from my local Tesco on Friday.

I love Montepulciano d'abruzzo, but have always found cheap ones disappointing, so interested in reviews of that one.

Younger wines do generally benefit from airing, the contact with oxygen generally softens the harsher elements and smooths them out. The same can be achieved with decanting the wine, or there are aerators you can pour the wine through too. I often enjoy ‘2nd day’ wines more.

I've seen suggestions of using an electric coffee frother/mixer to air the wine.. I just give it a good shake once i've opened it and screwed the lid back on

£4.50 at Morrisons (reduced to £6 and then a further 25% off for 6 bottles or more).

Im sure some snobs will turn their nose up but I quite like this. Also despite there being other "better" labels from the same brand, orange label and a gold one, I think the yellow is the best.

Very easy going despite being 14%, zero hangovers, plus if you have a costco membership you can get it for about £6.5 a bottle if you buy a case. In Tesco express its now £8.80

I was once advised to decant all wine.

If it isn't an old bottle with the risk of sediment you can turbo decant it. give the bottle a swirl then upend it into the decanter. It will do the same job as an aerator and give you a days breathing in a minute.

I was one of those snobs! Too yellow, available everywhere and usually on offer. How wrong I was. It's wonderful.

La Patrie Malbec and Roc de Lussac St Emillion, both from Sainsburys are two other supermarket wines I like.

6 bottles for £20 at the DFDS Calais ferry duty free, I bought a couple of crates just because.

3 for the price of 1… proper Rioja reserva for €4 a bottle… unfortunately you’ll need access to a Supercor.

A friend brought a few bottles of these over a few weeks ago- bloody lovely!

Anyone know where I can get it without being a member of naked wines?

Always found you have to spend a bit more on a Monte, cheaper ones aren’t great.

Jamshed too sweet for me but i know plenty who like it.

Sucker for a YellowTail malbec at £6 a bottle. Aldi douro doc isnt bad either.

Im in both camps, love a £40 bottle to slowly drink and saviour but also like a quaffer at <£10

Enjoy in good health people

heads up as Sainsburys have offers on wines, including the Carnivore Zinfandel (down to £8 a bottle) and Porta 6 (down to £6.50 a bottle) . *and* if you buy 6 or more you get 25% off - until Sunday I think.
