Over the weekend I went to a nice unpretentious restaurant that I've become a regular with some friends (and a date) for almost a year now. I love a good steak and The Shires hits the spot every time I go, especially the rump. I get mine cooked blue and it's perfect everytime. This was from my last visit:

Much to the chagrin/joy of some here, I do not like peas at all, so they were soon put to one side, but the other accompaniments where brilliantly cooked, the chips had a lovely colour this time. And the shot everyone wants from a previous visit:

I'd recommend the place to anyone, it's half way between Scunny and Caenby Corner in a little hamlet called Gainsthorpe, just off the A15.

That steak does look fantastic!

Tried Aldis Smash Burgers last night, which some random social media story that ended up in my timeline compared to 5 Guys. Probably a bit of a stretch but they were very good - tasty but didn't overpower the toppings, and were lean enough that the burgers didn't disintegrate or squirt juice everywhere.

Toppings were fried onions, Jarlsberg cheese, some Dijon mustard and ketchup, with brioche buns and some chips.

Definitely picking up more of them.

Perfectly cooked! I am definitely putting this place to the "must visit " list and going to go there as soon as i have chance to do that.
At the moment i need to view features of the writing services for my college , but as soon as i am done with that, i will have more time for relaxation. It's been a while since i've been to a good restaurant with family, so time to do that again.

Where were the Jerseys' from? All the supermarket ones I've had have been st compared to the really expensive ones I've had from our local garden centre who get them direct from a small supplier on the Island.

Indian cottage pie.

It's actually beef keema with the sauce thickened and tumeric mash on top. Mrs first go at this and will definitely be having again.

Perfectly cooked!
At least peas tongue outtongue out arrived with your meal, so you have the choice of God's favourite veggie.
And the side dish of steak looks decent, as well.

Nice, I fancy giving this a go. It would be nice made with lamb mince.

I can't stand the smell of lamb mince it turns me green. I always make keema with beef but if you like lamb mince I'm guessing it would be great. Deffo give it a go though it will be a regular in our house now. One of her wins this dish.
