That New York Times PR piece on Holmes is being laughed at all around the world.Once a bastion of outstanding journalism, it’s been a laughing stock for the last five years or more.

It's good, people can see it clearly now, tac 'the thing' onto anything, hey-presto, 'journalism'.
That NY Times article is behind a paywall but the Graun analyses it here:

I wouldn't characterize myself as gullible. Spent too long working with the general public for that. But if it fits your narrative.
Its interesting though. Thread starts, stick wielding lynch mob starts to assemble, with successive posts becoming more dogmatic. Then someone posts with a slightly different view to the mob, and the counter posts are
Is he a sex pervert
Has he got both oars in the water, in other words a gullible fool.
...............sometimes its hard to be me..............

You can read it by toggling the reader view in firefox and refreshing. I wouldn't bother though as it is a horredous puff piece (irrespective of the Arwa Mahdawi's opinion) trying to paint her as a misunderstood tech visionary and just a normal person caught up in events and not the manipulating fraudster of a failed fake tech company who also bares the lions share of responsibilty for Ian Gibbons taking his own life. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/may...

As for your comments about no basis in current technology you may want to look at recent strides in blood testing for advance detection of non specific cancer markers. There is a revolution in medicine coming, its just that its not a great mix with greedy investors, or less than transparent scientists
There might be a revolution coming but that's future rather than current technology, surely? She went a lot futher than being a naive optimist, allegedly she defrauded people & risked others' lives. If found guilty then she deserves what she gets.

She certainly deserves all she gets. She comes across as somebody still in denial. Where a decent person would be full of remorse and quite possibly retreat to the library with a bottle of spirits and a revolver, she goes on a charm offensive. IMHO nothing but a con artist with delusions of her self worth,
This! The more one reads about her and her behaviour over the years, the worse she comes across. This 'current' incarnation is just that - another 'persona' that suits her right now and what she wants to achieve now at any cost.

She won't serve any time, far too rich and/or connected to wealth.
I've probably already said exactly this on this thread.
We seem to have taken a major step forward yesterday and added a $452M restitution cost into the mix I've probably already said exactly this on this thread.

STraight out of the Trump playbook now? Delay, obfuscate and Appeal?https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/us/elizabeth-holmes...
Will this head off shortly to the US Supreme Court? How is she funding her legals?
That will give me something to do over the weekend - more reading as this is all fascinating (IMO)

After several failed attempts to delay her time behind bars, Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is set to report to federal prison this week.
The disgraced entrepreneur was sentenced to over 11 years in prison and ordered to pay $452m (£365m) with her former business partner Sunny Balwani to dozens of high-profile investors they defrauded through a blood-testing start-up.
It's a sizeable bill for the former billionaire, who has claimed she does not even have enough money to pay her lawyers.

In some ways it is a really odd way of going about incarceration - knowing the date you must go in with then an eleven year stay ahead
This morning freshly squeezed orange juice with waffles on the terrace then tomorrow .........
I’m always fascinated when people's lives lurch from one extreme to the other, and I just can’t imagine what it would be like to end up in jail after a life of wealth and privilege. This morning freshly squeezed orange juice with waffles on the terrace then tomorrow .........
If I was in her shoes I think I would have left immediately for Nepal to spend the rest of my life as a goat.

Indeed. Though I think more than the wealth and privilege, leaving two kids - the youngest only three months old - would be the biggest change. If I was in her shoes I think I would have left immediately for Nepal to spend the rest of my life as a goat.
