George Galloway back in Parliment

Noticed that the middle class far leftie types on my Facebook have come out of the woodwork since October 7th. Not one has condemned the slaughter of innocent Israelis but plenty of posts about Free Palestine .
Now since George Galloway was elected they have clearly thought very carefully not to post directly endorsing his victory but in usual leftie fashion they post quotes from other people. So when called out on endorsing someone is also endorsed by former far right racist and ex BNP leader Nick Griffin they can say that it was someone else's quote and not them.
One guy in particular posts very openly anti-semitic stuff and works high up in the public sector. I can guarantee if I'd posted the same things about Islam I'd have been sacked immediately but somehow the Jews are fair game

I don't get how liking/quoting/retweeting makes any odds; unless you're adding a counter argument of some kind it's an implicit agreement with whatever the original post is.
I was discussing it with my sister and she said he Corbyn loving boss used to do the same. it's a way of expressing opinions without being personally liable for the comment.This is one of them. I reminded them that Tony Benn died nearly a decade ago

What Hamas did on 7th October was appalling and horrendous. People were treated extremely badly and the remaining hostages and their families must be going through hell. There is no question about that. What the Israeli government have since done to the people of Gaza is wildly disproportionate and horrendous in the damage inflicted and the huge number of uninvolved people killed and injured. Gaza was a mess to begin with, re-construction may never be completed and hatred of Israel within Gaza, and beyond, will continue to grow.
Hamas does not equal "all muslim people" and they do not speak for all.
The Israeli government does not equal "all Jewish people" and they do not speak for all.
The situation in Israel/Palestine has been a huge problem for decades and is not really surprising to somebody with no vested interests or any problem with the people of Gaza or the people of Israel (and no problem with Jewish people or Muslim people).
So, having run on a policy of "Free Palestine" and "Grrrr Israel", which he will not have any influence on other than being an annoying noise in the corner, what is he going to do to make lives better for the residents of the community he has been elected to represent? What local issues is he going to focus on and how is he going to tackle them?
An obnoxious grifter has spotted an opening and jumped straight into it. Credit to him for identifying the opportunity and being able to exploit people's suffering for his own gain. Hopefully he will be out in the next election. Until then we will have to continue hearing his devisive, unpleasant rhetoric.

More prosaically google only turns up that tweet when asked about it; either Benn didn't say it or it's sufficiently un-notable that the internet is unaware despite wedgy being a very notable wordsmith. Its a fake isn't it.It's like when that tweet or post appeared about another major politician having some bad stuff in her background.

Years ago I was on holiday in Cuba with my wife. Interesting experience all round.
We fell into the habit of sticking the TV on after we'd got in from the beach and were getting ready to go out and eat. this being Cuba, there wasn't a lot of choice on TV and my Spanish isn't good enough to understand what was on. But it was obvious that the centrepiece of the evening schedule was a sort of Question Time style thing. Castro was on the panel but didn't seem to speak much. Fascinating to observe the dynamic even if I couldn't really follow the discussion.
One evening I noticed a bloke in the audience that I thought looked like Galloway. Indeed it was. Invited up to speak he began his piece with, "I come here on behalf of the British people..." before embarking on a glowing description of the admiration that Brits have for Cuba.
I presume he meant one Brit in particular. The one who got Cuban state-sponsored travel to the Island a couple of times a year and freebie boxes of Montecristos to take home with him.

If the press had anything about them, they'd keep on at Galloway non stop on pressing issues in Rochdale, watch him wilt under the scrutiny of his actual job but they won't as they passionately do not give a toss about that.
Not one to dunk on the media, that's for the spinning loonies always on the look out for someone else to blame but it would be sweet if for once it went beyond the Rochdale Observer.

The national press is in it to make money. Issues with Rochdale's church roof fund and failed promises of the local MP are not going to pique the national interest. I see this as a rerun of Bradford West. Although somewhat ironically, back then he stood on a platform of being very anti-baradari in order to beat the Labour candidate.
