Galloway refused to do R4 this morning but Chris Williamson went on in his place. Refused to condemn the Oct 7th attack. Refused distance himself from Nick Griffen.

I'd like to say the mask has slipped, but it hasn't even slipped, there never was a mask.
The majority of Rotherham coulnd't be bothered to turn out, so I think it's a good thing they get the Galloway/Williamson clown show.

Will be interesting to see the turnout for the GE in a few months time. And see the result of that.

I can't think of a more odious pair of absolute weapons.

Galloway is a self serving turd, that won't flush.

The Kashmiri, Mirpuri and Bangladeshi communities in fly blown towns like Bradford and Rochdale work on a family/ clan basis - that's what he is exploiting - getting in on effectively a block vote. Once they see that he's off and uncontactable and has no interest in their day to day issues, he'll be back out on his ear, like he always is.

I think he probably has no political home, it's all about George.

I heard it. He began by sounding almost professional and respectable, but it very quickly descended into partisan ranting. He did not even attempt to condemn the Oct 7th attack.

I have always disliked the regular accusations of "anti-semitism" for any criticism of the Israeli government, but Hamas are hardly a bunch of pacifists with the best interests of the people of Gaza in mind.

Labour upset some by not calling for a ceasefire (they could have done, but they are scared of appearing "anti-semitic" -it would be academic anyway, as Israel would not have acted upon it), then withdrew support from a candidate who dislikes Israel, Galloway the opportunist came along and took the seat. (Why would people vote for somebody like him?)

Rochdale has many issues. The people of Rochdale are almost certainly not going to be well-represented by him. He will just represent himself.

To be fair, they shouldn't have been entitled to a vote and would have needed to travel...

Galloway is indeed a and he's responsible for his own views.

What's more concerning is that plenty of others appear to share some of them because they voted for him in numbers. Right minded & tolerant people do not vote for a divisive like that under any circumstances.

Suggestion that this would only be confined to Rochdale would be somewhat naive. Such a marvelously integrated multicultural society we have these days.

the way he systematically took the senate report apart was brilliant. The panel squirmed for the duration of the GG show. Worth a watch smile

What was that about division?

2nd place went to a local guy campaigning on local issues. If you can't hold in your own prejudices, at least pay lip service to reality. Worth remembering too the Mail obtained Azhar Ali's recording & calculatedly held onto it until it was too late for Labour to remove & replace him. They would have romped home otherwise. If you don't like the result, remember who facilitated it.

Who do you think he's appealing to with the Anti-Trans / Make Rochdale Great Again rhetoric in the first campaign letter?

At this years (and possibly a midge into 2025) there will be other elected MP's whose immediate proclamation will be solidarity for Gaza rather than their constituencies.

Why is George Galloway?

Not sure who designed him or what he's actually for.

He seems to turn up every few years in a silly hat, make some noise, and then disappear again.

Succinct, but utterly accurate. This is a bad day for Rochdale and the UK. And they had someone in their independent who seemed like a genuinely decent prospect.

No fan of Galloway, but him winning isn't much different than a far right leader winning because the local town doesn't like immigrants. George will create division and this isn't a great day for UK politics, even though democracy won.

And the people of Rochdale were hardly given a wealth of options either.

I’m a Rochdale voter - just! (Our house is quite literally the last in the borough). Galloway was put in by the Muslim vote (and a very few fringe hard left nutters). It was a dead cert.

The letters were an example of what a two faced conniving weasel he is - I’d already seen the Muslim “brothers” version - the one he sent to the white neighbourhoods has been a laughing stock - the stuff he said he would sort out - he’d stop grooming gangs? O rly?!? And ps off his main voter support.

It just proves why places like this have areas that are total stholes (believe it or not Rochdale has a lot of very nice areas) - the people in them will vote en bloc for a candidate who is campaigning on Gaza - not on what he can do for the town. He can do nothing, same as our government, about Gaza save some pontificating with a microphone - he loves that. They must be total mugs.

We’ve been getting a lot of work done on our house as we are, like many of our friends who’ve fled, getting out of here. This had been foreseen for next year but this has been a kick up the arse. I had a lot of texts this morning this being not atypical…

The difference is the the far right parties get thrashed, usually losing their deposit.

Galloway won, on a platform endorsed by Nick Griffen.

Can't really argue with that.
