My Mum recently went through the process of adopting a cat, or tried to at least but the big charities were so difficult and demanding to deal with she found it impossible.
That surprises me. I adopted two cats last year from Cats Protection. Saw them on their website Sunday night, sent them an email on Monday, had a phone call with their adoption coordinator on Tuesday, sent them a video walk-around of the house and garden on Tuesday, and collected the cats from their foster home on the Friday. All for a donation of 50 quid a cat, it couldn't have been any easier. They even vaccinated and neutered them.
There's a lot of variation, three shelters refused to give my partner and I cats because we said we wouldn't let them out. Surely transitioning to being in a home where you're cared for is better than a cage in a shelter?

We got a pair from an SSPCA shelter but it was still a bit of a hoop jumping exercise.
We foster hard to home cats for Cats Protection and there are very strict guidelines around both adoption and fostering to ensure the cats have the best quality of life they can have. Keeping a cat indoors that previously had access to the outdoors does not meet that criteria. The care and attention they get while waiting to be rehomed in adoption centres is typically amazing, so short term caged life is not an issue if it ensures their long-term happiness. As CheesecakeRunner says, it's a quick and painless process if you meet the required criteria smile

Every dog has its day. For Teddy that's every day that ends in a y. smile

But have you tried clipping his claws yet ? laugh

We have tried every gadget we can find and Ella just curls into a ball and cries if we try to cut hers.

I know it seems like I'm obsessed with his ears, but they look like Yoda in this one.

Having looked back at his pictures he's definitely sending us a message in semaphore yes

Now my semaphore is a little rusty so it's either dimensions to playmate of the month or confirming the sinking of the Bismarck...

Bismarck is down, but I love Kiri and Tiki.

Plus my besty is Chester Kitten. (Who is about to be two, but don't tell him)
