The majestic lion is my mine. Never tire watching them or reading about them, specifically I prefer the lioness, she is the core of all prides and provider to the pride males and her cubs, lioness's will fight to the death defending her cubs when nomadic males attempt a "take over" of a pride (males WILL kill any and all cubs to bring the females into estrus (spelling?) Watching a group of lioness's stalk and dispatch animals anything up to 3 times their own body weight is captivating, as all aspects of a lions world are (to me)

Brief history of the Mapogo coalition

The above picture is of the infamous Mapogo coalition who dominated Sabi Sand for 6 or so years and killing an estimated 100 lions. They ruled an area 6 times as large as Manhattan! til infighting split the coalition into two separate groups and two separate areas. At first I thought their actions and behaviour were pretty evil and brutal but they were simply being the best lions they could be! although nature from the human perspective is often very violent these 6 took it to a whole new level! If they couldn't decide who had mating rights over a female, she would be killed and eaten (cubs filmed not only being killed but often eaten too)

I heartily agree that their are more pressing issues needing attention and two legs come before four but the perilous future of the wild lion looks bleak. A population of nearly half a million in the 1950's has dwindled down to less than 20 thousand, mostly down to mankind's actions. As much as I would love to have my pic taken with a cub, I would never consider it, all it does is continue the money making machine. I eat meat and am under no illusion how animals are treated but I'll never understand what is to be gained from murdering a lion. Often its anything but "sporting" often drugged, tamed and killed from the comfort and security of a fence or a vehicle.. any person who does this must be severely lacking. If you recall Cecil the male lion, who was lured to his death, not only did he die but as the dominant pride male, his cubs would of been killed by another male who took his place. The whole "canned lion" industry is disgusting IMO..

A random post maybe?! but what is your favourite?? (anybody like the honey badger?)
