Isn't this about the right time for the koln festival, can't remember the name of it. Three day event, fancy dress, dark beer when even their police smile.
Karneval.

Started yesterday. Most of the festivities over this weekend.
I think it use to be called Flasching or something like, I didn't google 'cos I can't spell it and it's going to say "do you mean flashing" smile
And then I'll be off following the links biggrin
Some people do call it Fasching, yes. Just another colloquialism for the same event.

No idea about daytime stuff - but for the clubbers i can definitely recommend:

Weekend - superb club on the 15th floor of an office building with a 17th floor terace.
Berghain - massive, beautifully done and awesomely loud club in an old power plant.
Bar 25 - like a weird festival on the river, crazy but cool.

Berlins' people are really friendly and always enjoy a chat in English or German!

There is also a big tower you can go up and get a good view of the whole city but I cannot remember the name of it though.
yep, the TV tower: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernsehturm_Berlin

checkpoint charlie museum was interesting

in general the former east berlin is prettier than the west

a good restaurant is Margeaux: http://www.margaux-berlin.de/

go for drinks at the Hotel Adlon, or stay there if you're feeling flush (not too pricey really) http://www.hotel-adlon.de/en/home/index.htm

some good bars around the Hackescher Markt - can't rememeber what they're called though

Wow. I clearly need training from you.

Down in Munich i just hit them over the head and drag them back to my Cave / Flat smile
You live in Munich? Another great city! Are the women generally fit (saw a few, but nothing exceptional...)? This is important when picking a city, I feel.

Yup

But my standards do not draw the line at whether they are fit or not. Usually a pulse is good enough for mesmile

I much prefer Munich to Berlin. The beer and food are far better!

Nobody mentioned Checkpoint Charlie?!
Well worth a visit - takes about 60-90 mins to go around the museum and get the obligatory pictures!

There is a lot more to do over there if you are into modern history, particulary Sachsenhausen camp which is a real thought provoking eye-opener - but if it's a stag night then KuDamm and Oranienburger Strasse are the more lively places, but quite a few good bars around Under den Linten - the road leading off from the Brandenburg Gate.

Hotel Adlon - is that the one at the back of the Brandenburg Gate where Jacko dangled his baby over the balcony?

Agree with above, Berlin is one of my favorite cities I've been to. I first went in '88 as a teenager and before the wall came down. Watching it redevelop itself in the last 20 years has been fascinating.

ok, i'm now specifically looking for a good speakeasy / cabaret / burlesque venue. preferably something that evokes the 30's glamour of the weimar republic. can include dinner but i'm thinking this would be a good activity to slot in between dinner and getting ratted.

there are 7 of us going, all male, and i doubt anyone will be taking any formal clothing, so somewhere relaxed in that respect would be welcome.

any ideas?
