Don't know about it being a 'mental issue'. I imagine many of the population feel the same. I know I do.

I read on my NextDoor about someone in Wimbledon Greggs ask two scrotes to put down the stuff they had stolen and they came back with similar threats. In general people who boast about weapons probably don’t have one (they would just get it out) but you wouldn’t want to get it wrong ..

That's slightly reassuring at least smile

I'm just tired of seeing people posting things like videos of scrotes in balaclavas stealing motorbikes with the note "does anyone know these lads?" rather than phoning the police or going out and battering them among many other things.

The masses just seem to have stopped caring about anything and this seems to have a knock-on effect where bad behaviour is becoming normalised.

The idea of guys being able to ride around on the streets with hoods up and balaclavas looking for victims is ludicrous where I live. Just couldn’t happen, would not be tolerated.

Equally if I was to be mugged or have phone stolen off table and shouted ‘help thief thief!!’ I would have tons of people piling in to catch them.

I’ve heard of bike chases lasting 30minutes or more with thief with 20 guys on his tail.

We actually had an attempted mugging in our area back in March. Bag snatch. Police issued a statement and put extra officers out on patrol. Local security increased their night time patrols as well.

Get caught stealing a phone, you will most likely get a kicking and you’ll do three years. If you are a foreigner you will be deported on release - no appeals.

I remember a lady got her bag snatched, must be 6/7 years ago, in an area near us. These two guys came back around a few hours later and tried again. Both ended up in a coma and one died in hospital.

That led to some instructions from government and police for restraint in these matters; capture, detain but not beat. At least not beat to death! That was a good few years ago. Can’t think of any since. You will get a kicking though.

Shoplifting is the same - get caught and you are in trouble. General rule is pay back 2-4 times the value of the item or police get called. You will not be walking out of the shop. Its why people are so amazed at what they see in UK. How can this happen? Why don’t security, staff and the customers grab them?

I’d add I’m happy to leave all my stuff on tables in cafes, never put my helmet away under bike seat and nobody locks up their bikes.

Huge amounts of stuff
Don't worry that you're wasting anyone's time reporting stuff, but do try and be discerning and report to the right places. Police intelligence pictures don't build themselves, forces are already reliant on the gen pub for lots of important intel. You've acknowledged your expectations are unreasonably high, so that's good - in terms of the 30 second response to every call - given the (also acknowledged) lack of resources. You could also apply it to later in your stream of consciousness when you use "when they can be bothered"...I get that's how it feels. It's rarely how it is. Your energy would be very useful in lobbying all and sundry for more resources, though. Pester your MP, Mayor and PCC!

Several years ago, I was on a train to Chester when a bloke behind me was having a very loud telephone conversation with someone, and a man came up and said "Be quiet, the whole carriage doesn't need to hear you",

The caller took issue, got up and a full scale fist fight ensued, which lasted about a minute.

They were both well in their eighties.

All points noted and agreed with, I'm not ringing 999 and a lot of the time it's the 101 online chat I leverage just to provide them with data, in fairness response is usually good considering the struggles they have. It's all for actual crimes rather than "this chap looks a bit dodgy" too of course, I'm not quite right upstairs but I'm more "overly focused" that "annoyingly deranged"... I hope smile

On the rare times I've used 999 (people with guns outside or people in stolen cars) the response has been impressive and with 101 once you eventually get through there's usually someone on site within 30 minutes, sometimes this gets them caught, sometimes it doesn't because they've disappeared. It's all intelligence though I guess and hopefully helps the wider cause.

You're right about the lobbying too, I think it's probably best left until after the election though, the current MP knows there's issues but is too busy arranging debates on stopping Net Zero or tweeting about us going back to using paper instead of digital tech biglaugh

What do you think would have happened if straight off the bat you'd said "can you move your scooter please?"

I'm guessing a very antagonistic, 'no' would have been the answer.

Bali.

I’m not saying I agree with mob violence.

Crime still happens.

Violent crime is a lot less than UK though.

Many people will leave bike keys permanently in the bike. I don’t think twice about leaving my phone in the car when parked up.

Caught stealing - you will go to prison.

Also what a lot of tourists (and the recent Russian diaspora) don’t realise is you aren’t threatening one Balinese person - you are threatening all of them, this then escalates to all Indonesians then all people in the community regardless of origin.
