I’d be surprised if this is a fundamentally different power unti to the new V8 used in Porsches, Bentleys, Urus SE and I guess fast Audis.

So why go to the trouble of making it rev so high for a comparately tiny power increase (vs Bentley for example)?
It is a completely different engine. Audi/porsche V8 is a long stroke engine and would not survive at 10 000 rpm.

That looks highly entertaining. Assuming I am reading the pictures right then the intercoolers right next to the compressor wheels and straight into the intake manifolds should mean very short pipe runs and good throttle response. Probably doesn’t need much boost to get the headline power figures given the engine capacity and rev limit. With a nice electric torque fill to the bottom of the power curve you could use some quite aggressive can timing which should make the top end lovely. I think this could be a belter of an engine.

Makes the V6 competition look a bit lacking imo, will be interesting to see what the pricing will be, I’m guessing £250k ish. Hopefully otr for under £300k.

It is impressive with it revving to 10k rpm when you consider it is turbocharged I reckon. smokin

Yep just realised this is flat-plane.

Still, I would be surprised if Lambo developed a completely bespoke 4L twin-turbo hybrid V8 for this when the new Urus already uses a 4L twin-turbo hybrid V8!

Does seem a shame to lose the USP of the Huracan…
The Audi R8 also used the same V10 engine so was it really a USP?

Autocar saying the 800bhp is just the combustion engine.

Hybrid assistance will be on top of that to take it to over 900bhp.

Engine is new and unique to Lamborghini.

Sounds pretty amazing in this day and age... Thank you Lambo.

I'd love to know how much the whole powerplant (engine + motors + battery) weighs compared to the Ferrari 296 and McLaren Artura units (and the old V10 if possible...).

The Urus engine, while a very competent unit on it's own, would not compare favorably to the Ferrari/McLaren/.. competition. And Lambo does enough volume (Gallardo was sold in 14 000+ units, I'm guessing Huracan much the same) these days they can afford a bespoke engine.

I'd hazard a guess that the sales success of the Urus has given them the financial clout to be able design and build an engine that is uniquely Lamborghini's.

And, therefore, have something for the future to differentiate them from Audi, and provide stiff competition to Ferrari et al.

Sounds fantastic on paper, 10k rpm! But it’s going to be all about the sound as that’s been the Huracans party piece all along, the competition usually wins on everything else but nothing tops that V10 scream especially in the STO.

Quite a curve ball that! Was expecting just the generic VAG V8 with the boost wound up. Interested to see what it's like.

I find this exciting though doubt the vehicle will be anywhere near the price range of a Huracan. VW needs a profitable hit for Lamborghini so they can offer the whole for sale.

You’ve realised it’s flat plane… and still said what you’ve said below it. Maaaan really.

Just a different block, crank and pistons but other than that then

That's mental. Considering the Huracan/replacement is the 'junior' Lamborghini, having considerably more power than a 720s is crazy.

Guess it's likely to need it a tad due to increased weight, but good god things are getting silly.

Mumsnet is leaking again... Seriously, Lamborghini have decided to do something a bit mental that doesn't really make sense, but is presumably going to be pretty epic. And people are here complaining that it doesn't entirely make sense and might be a bit over the top... on a Lamborghini?!

Also I don't recall anyone complaining about the noise the E92 M3 makes when it gets revved out to 8,400rpm, so this should sound pretty good at 10,000.

A gallardo or huracan is also an Audi...

It'll sound incredible in neutral in Knightsbridge - but a 900bhp entry level model is just ridiculous, and borderline unusable, or rather, unavailable.
