Come on chaps lets have a reminiss about cars we wish we still had financialy or emotionally,I'll kick off I actually have two regrets,
1/ mk1 (66) Lotus Cortina ,dry sump L2 cams,45s,minilites,ect ect,I do remember it breaking down a lot though!I loved that car.

2/ 993 (94) 911 lhd 3.8 engine, guards red, black leather ,a/c no sun roof or rear wiper,18" anteras, sorted suspension, bit of both on that one just a fine car sticks in my mind,

Sorry if this has been done to death but better than moaning about the credit crunch!rotate

Spookily enough my stepfather moved from Ford averly to dunton research and design centre and the escort twin cam was his first project he actually helped design it.

Are you sure it was the Twin Cam, as the Twink was created before Ford AVO at Aveley existed and in fact was invented in late 1966 by Henry Taylor at a meeting in his house with with Bob Howe of Ford's Product Planning Dept (who later was the man responsible for flogging off all the RS200's in the late 80's) and then a mock-up was hashed together one weekend at Boreham by Bill Meade and Mick Jones......much to the anoyance of the workforce at Dunton...smile
Hi,yes he was working on the twin cam ,he was in his 80s and has passed away now,so many years ago I thought I may have made a mistake and he worked on the project at averley? dont know if they had avo vin nos though perhaps it was a bit nearer or during production I know it was later than your car though,I remember battery was in the boot and they had the square head lamps IIRC I'm talking 69-71 and most were white I remember he brought one home mum remembers it keeping him up at night ,also had some involvement on the first capri with a tailgate I remember him saying its like an mgbgt with a tailgate but thats another story!
some of those names are familiar by the way.

Both the TVRs.

4.3Griff and the Sag.

With regards to the posts above about Tuscans on ice, try it in a Griff across Snake on Xmass Eve around 1am when you only find out that its suddenly snowing with the white stuff on the ground when you pull out to overtake somebody and suddenly go sideways. That was an interesting journey home!

I regret selling those cars everyday.
I know the feeling hence the post Ive owned,
Couple of chimeras 4/5 ltr,
2 griffs 430bv and a 5ltr far better IMO,
1 rr cerb 4.5,
1 rr tusc in bright de walt yellow! actually a citroen colour,
great cars superb performance per pound!

If he worked at AVO, it wouldn’t have been the Twin Cam as apart from the first 25 production cars hand built at Boreham by the rally mechanics, all Twin Cams were made at Halewood in Liverpool and AVO had no real involvement with the Twin Cams.
So, more likely it was the RS1600 (with the 16v Cosworth BDA engine instead of the Lotus-Ford engine) he was involved with along with the Mexico and RS2000…..and probably the RS3100 Capri too. He might have been involved with the Twin Cam earlier than Aveley though, which maybe how he ended up working at AVO..??
Ford put together the production plant at Aveley in 1969 and the first car, an RS1600, was driven off the line in Jan 1970 by Graham Hill. There is a famous Ford publicity shot of this in lots of RS books with Hill surrounded by some of the AVO workforce. Maybe you step Dad is one of those..?
The AVO plant shut down at the end of Jan 1975.

Thanks for the informative reply,I was only 7/8 then!
he was a gifted draughtsman and designer mum still has some of his pencil drawings, these cad desingners have it easy these days.
I'm sure it was the lotus escort though and not the rs1600 I remember them too i had a powder blue 1700bda mk2 that I rescued from death and repaired in the 80s worth big money now.
