David maybe you know why these Lambo's don't have mirrors fitted?
Looking at the pictures this just struck me.
The majority of factory photographs of the early models, many of which were of prototypes and/or show cars, almost always featured cars without wing mirrors, presumably because it was felt they cluttered the appearance.Looking at the pictures this just struck me.
Where mirrors were fitted to production cars it was often only on the driver's side.

There's a bloke who drinks in my local who worked for a Lamborghini agent in London in the 60s/70s. He has some amazing old photos of Miuras and Espadas in period... I promised him the photos of my trip to Sant Agata a few years ago, I should dig those out.
He may remember Del Hopkins then, though Del would have been quite junior in those days. Del is now retired but worked for most / all of the Lamborghini concessionaires in the UK from the late sixties until the early two thousands and has just asked/agreed to become LCUK's technical consultant. His knowledge is vast, his reputation impeccable, his villa in Spain kind o' cool and has the ability to make me feel not-in-the-least sorry for him when he complains that some evenings in the winter it gets a little chilly Could the person who drinks in your local be Tom Gilburn?

Del is still alive and kicking, still in spain and just still under 70, I will send him your regards
Hi Clare - lovely to see you here - welcome to the gritty 'reality' of PistonHeads!!You could ask your Dad to call sometime especially if your Mum and he can come to the LCUK Annual Dinner weekend on 23-25 July. It's on the doorstep of Silverstone and I know you have relatives near as well...
Any chance of putting a 'thumbnail' image of the poster on here? I recall Pirelli also did some A3 posters one of which featured the Miura, Marzal, and another the Daytona. On the wall of The Tonino Lamborghini Museum from the early seventies there is a large A0 poster which featured the Urraco, Espada and Countach.

Whilst looking at an ancestry site and typing in my Dad's name, Thomas Gilban, I came across this site. My Dad died unfortunately in 2007 and would like to have seen this site! He worked on cars all his life and undertook private work right up to his death in 2007. I have many good memories as we used to travel to the Lambo and Ferrari workshops when I was young.
I'll ask him, I should see him on Wednesday. I forget the name of the chap he used to work with; who had the first Lamborghini concession over here?Tomtom, could you put me in touch with the chap you mention above, who worked for the Lamborghini agent in London in 1969?? That was the year when my Islero was sold by them to its first owner in London. I have been trying to contact someone who worked there in 1969 for over a year now, as I need a certain piece of information concerning my car. I have been in touch with Del Hopkins but he was not there in 1969 - it was before his time. Del did write to me as follows: "The foreman of the Lambo workshop before me and during this time was Tom Gilburn who lived in South London, but I have no contact details and have not seen him since 2000, He would now I suspect is in his early 70's if he is still with us.".
Could the person who drinks in your local be Tom Gilburn?

Anybody know the history of this Miura?, I saw it at the classic car show in the NEC last year and remember reading an info sheet about it saying it was owned by a celebrity back in the 70's/80's (can't remember which decade exactly) anybody know who that celebrity was?.
It also mentioned that the car was damaged by fire and sent back to Lambo for a rebuild?.
Anyway less of the talking more pics, sorry for the quality as the pictures were taken on an iphone and it was the 1st Miura I'd seen up close so I was a bit excited .

Quick Google...
In dazzling orange or lime green, the original Miura epitomised the swinging Sixties, with black eyelashes around its headlamps matching the false lashes of skinny, white-faced models. Twiggy's manager, Justin de Velleneuve, bought the one above (with her money) to squire her around London's night spots.
ONe of the Lambo historians here is bound to know.

The info sheet did mention it had been resprayed a different colour then again back to the original, so it could be that one.In dazzling orange or lime green, the original Miura epitomised the swinging Sixties, with black eyelashes around its headlamps matching the false lashes of skinny, white-faced models. that (almost correct, paint is a bit dark) pistachio green Miura was originally white and originally left hand drive and it went (eventually, in the late nineties) to the Classic Car Club (a points-system car hire business, not a 'proper' club - are they still going?) and was more recently owned by a member of LCUK and his wife. The LCUK member sadly died and left the car (and many others) to his wife who now uses it and who is, at the very least, a star!
the attached image here shows the car in the 1960s when it was still lhd and in the original white as delivered to JdV and in which he was allowed to have a goddess amongst sixties singing stars appear ...
great to see that this thread is still going Albert!!
