I run my Porsche Cayenne on LPG. There is no dicernable loss of performance. I had it fitted about one month after purchase.

We liked it so much we converted my wifes Volvo V70 2 weeks after.

No problems on either cars. Just reduced bills.

Finding stations can be a bit of a pain but if you have an iphone 'there's an app for that'. Most motorway service stations have them too which covers most of my long distance driving.

Have a Jag X350 4.2, get about 400 miles for £50....previous XJ6 4 litre, was converted at 80k, and I sold it at 325,000k after 8 years use. Very rarely have issues getting LPG...although it was only 28p litre when I first started using it.

Which model Cayenne do you have and what brand of LPG system?
If you would be so kind?

[quote=Hedders]Not popular at all! A lot of garages will back away in horror as soon as they see an LPG kit. They all see it as some kind of black art and what nothing to do with it hehe And most people that have no experience of LPG seem to think that the tanks are bound to explode if you have an accident.

Well fist of all you have to be qualified to touch lpg and most people aren, however where i work in watsville south wales we do lpg conversions and the last 1 we did was over 5 months ago and we have only done 4 this year. Compared to 15 last year people arent going down the route of lpg and just getting a more fuel efficent car, plus as we do a bit of work with lpg we do get quite a few problems with it aswel so reliablity of the system leaves much to be desired

I currently can't get any LPG into my car due to a faulty Valve (i think) so i am all too aware of reliability issues. I personally would not have paid to convert this car but i am happy the PO did.

Its not as popular as you might think, considering the cost of LPG.

But if it was popular or gets popular, you can guarantee the government will tax it to fk and make it just as expensive as petrol/diesel...

My o/h gets around 320 Miles to £30 in her 545i (E60)

My Yank Chevy van does well too, I'm not sure how good as the mileometer works when it wants to.

You might have a snag getting insurance too - some of the big names won't touch cars with aftermarket systems.

Not had any trouble getting insured either, as long as you have a certificate of installation.

I considered when I get my Legacy 2.5 as a daily driver earlier this year but there were several things that put me off, e.g. initial cost (£1.5-£2K), not many fuel stations near me (I only know of one) and the fact I don't tend to keep cars too long so the payback wasn't there even though I do about 18K miles/year.

Plus the fact the Lgeacy is getting late 30's mpg so the running costs are not bad anyway.

It does seem like it could be a good option if I was to have a powerful every day car and drive it harder, but they don't seem to be very popular over here.

I think that's a good example of a marginal case. It makes a lot more sense when your mpg is half of that, lpg is seen a bit on the 3.0 Legacy's

LPG is popular near London, because its CC exempt.

I wouldn't mind a gas car to be honest. It would mean I could fill the car up on payday and not worry about it till payday again. When the gas runs out switch over to the petrol.

none of the garages in my area will touch it and only one filling station within a 30 mile radius provides it.

Safe to say I won't be going LPG anytime soon.

the old man had his auto E200 converted into LPG. cost £1100 for parts + 1days conversion. Did some calculations, and after 16,000 he'd break even from the cost of the conversion. Does require a service/inspection every 2-3k miles or so. and sometimes has idling issues when you switch over from petorl to LPG. but when driving it, you'd never notice the difference.

I am considering it on a large capacity engine only. I wouldn't do it myself on a Golf or a WRX or something like that. I would considering it more for a car like a V8 Corvette or Muscle Car as the prices of UK fuel would probably take the shine of it quite quickly.
