I bought a tip run / builders merchants car a few years back when doing up my house.

I chose a renault espace. Found one locally for abouot £600 quid and ran it for 3 years, usually paid a couple of hundred quid to get through an MOT, and then sold it for £450.

I'm not saying it could have gone to the south of France but only had to be fit to do short trips around town, which was just as well, it wa a bit of a state! smile

But perfect for just throwing st into. smile

I use a berlingo (car version) for tip runs and other jobs that I wouldn't want my main car to do, but for shifting loads of wood a single cab pickup would be my choice.
They're easier to load/unload than vans unless you go for something big like a transit.

I did a similar thing in the last house, bought a 1998 Audi A4 estate.

Cost £900, sold it after a year for £900. Yes insurance/tax/fuel etc, but it wasn't just for tip runs, it was used for trips to Ikea/B&Q/builders merchants/all the places you need to visit when doing up a house, worthy investment in my eyes.
