Took the car for an early evening run - heard a whump as the rear screen blew out - it wasn't a shatter from something hitting it- it just exploded- when I stopped the car the remaining glass was all pointing outwards.

I've had a saga getting the AA to agree to recover me to the dealer and now I'm facing wasting all day tomorrow going to and from the dealer.

If I don't travel with the car the AA put it on a 48hour relay - which means it won't get to the dealer during opening hours and will no doubt vanish from an AA compound or get soaked when it gets left outside.

The only way I can guarantee it gets there tomorrow is to travel with it and then work out how I get back from Winchester to Cambridge without spending the whole day doing it or catching covid on the way...Hoping I can get the use of a courtesy car...

Wow….

I didn’t think screens still did that in this age of laminated screens…..

Sorry to hear about the grief, but that could have happened at any time in the old days…..

Was the heated rear screen on as that might have triggered it if there was a weakness in the toughened glass.

Ouch, that’s really unlucky and annoying in equal measure I’m sure.

I remember a similar thing happening sitting in a mates Citroen AX back in the 1980’s - it made us jump out of our skins!

Hope you manage to get it fixed ok.

It's toughened glass.

Yes - defrost on front and rear - I’d only been driving 5 minutes so was still driving like Miss Daisy as the engine and oil warmed up.

I’m just glad (if it had to happen) it happened near to home and when I wasn’t on my way anywhere special…

No I'm not...

I am trying to not get too annoyed with it but I can't afford to waste days on end getting these things fixed.

Good job that Lotus Emira a) isn't available yet; and b) is a chunker.

I'm trying to look on the positive - that I've had 3 years of pretty much faultless motoring. But two issues within a week is not good.

......why not take it to St Albans or Chelmsford as you say you were near home/Cambridge?
(Perhaps its a used car warranty issue, hence Winchester???)

Customer service from St Albans/Chelmsford wasn’t great when I was trying to get the brake fault looked at. Didn’t return calls and then weren’t able to look at the car until mid Jan so am using the original dealer I bought the car from from when new.

Fingers crossed they will have one in stock, can you claim on your insurance for glass replacement?

!! WOW That really is bad luck. !!

If helps, I'm about 40-mins from Winchester, have family scattered around Cambridge, and could bring forwards a visit and benefit from the miles to run-in the new Légende.
There doesn't seem to be a PM system on this forum, and I wouldn't want to put contact details here, but I could ask Adam at Martins-Winchester to give you my details when you drop the vehicle there.
You'd have to put up with me driving like a Granny, only got it on Saturday, but the offer's there.

That is incredibly kind of you.
I’ll try to get a courtesy car but that’s a great relief if you are able to help out.

Many thanks

I'll send Adam an E-mail tonight and ask him to pass my contact details to you in case you can't get a loan car.
Do you have any idea of when you might reach Winchester?

They don’t have one in stock so I’ll have to leave it with them. In an ideal world perhaps they’d swap rear windows with one of the stock vehicles but I’m not sure that will happen.

What a fantastically kind offer.
FYI......if you tap the users name in box at left of the post) you see details and there is a tab at top to email the person, if they have enabled that action.

Thank you very much indeed. I’m at the mercy of the AA so will be any time from 9:30 to 11:30

Thanks for that info - I hadn't seen that option at first. Have now sent Miserablegit an E-mail message.
