Toyota Celica 190

Hello all! Long time reader, first time topic starter. Here's my Celica 190, I'm two and a half years into ownership and enjoying every day! The car's my daily as well as my weekend toy and I do about 300(!) miles a week for work so the mileage isn't exactly low, but these chain driven engines are bulletproof and it feels barely run in at 130k miles
Aside from commuting duties the car spends a lot of time in the Scottish Borders on B-roads, where it's nothing short of fantastic. The chassis deals with our harsh roads perfectly and the cam lift from 6,000 - 8,200rpm never ceases to make me smile!

These are from a drive I did with a friend and his Impreza, 800 miles of Scottish Highlands in two days
Getting washed, with my dad's 996 C4S and V8 Vantage for company
Usually lives in on-street parking as I live in the centre of Edinburgh

I thought the interior was alright? At least it's not black plastics, there's some contrasting colours in there and the fuel / water temp was a digital guage which looks very modern / neat.
Yours is an identical spec to mine - right down to the wheels and exterior styling pack.
I miss that engine / chassis to this very day, only the fuel consumption stopped my ownership when I started doing over 15k per year.
Definitely the best combination, pre-facelift front end, front splitter, 6-spokes and rear spoiler. Win-win.

I recommend looking into uprated friction pads and keeping on top of brake fluid changes - the weak point of this car IMO. My syncro was starting to wear between 2nd and 3rd too, which sometimes made a godawful crunch (esp at 8000rpm +!)
I only added a Blitz induction kit, double-din HU and some visual mods and the car was perfect. The Celica Club can be good for used parts if you're not already signed up.

I recommend looking into uprated friction pads and keeping on top of brake fluid changes - the weak point of this car IMO. My syncro was starting to wear between 2nd and 3rd too, which sometimes made a godawful crunch (esp at 8000rpm +!)

Nice, Looks like a nice tidy one, and in the best colour too Yeah I was thinking about looking into induction kits, as much as the engine screams at the top end it does sound a bit weedy low down.
I’m really pleased with the spec on mine, took me ages to find one with both the exterior and interior packs!

Standard induction kit has a special 'butterfly' valve which opens up and contributes to that whooosing noise you hear when you hit valve-lift under load. A small vacuum operates the valve and effectively turns the airbox into an open-air filter through a small opening. Not as noisy as a proper cone, but still enough to make a nice sound. Beware of heat soak if you pursue a cone induction kit.

Nice car OP. I'm over 2 years into the ownership of mine.
Absolutely love it, when that cam comes in.....
I can definitely vouch for a K&N induction kit, nice and subdued when bumbling about town but...on full throttle it's a fantastic sound!
Great car and great handling plus it makes overtakes easy when that cam comes on because, if the other person doesn't want you to go past and puts their foot down, their car is running out of breath just as you get your second wind

Pretty happy with the brakes on mine now I've fitted grooved & dimpled mtec brake discs (http://www.mtecbrakes.com/) with EBC redstuff pads. A brake cylinder stopper is also a worthy investment.I purchased a 140 back in February. A nice example with only 55,000 on. Wanted a 190 but couldn't find a reasonable one in the time frame (car had been written off - non fault of course - and needed wheels). Just missed out on a decent looking one.
