The stuff I originally used on the front frame is a marine sealant but
It still looked crap so I bit the bullet & had it powder coated
Hoping so max will post up the end result
The original engine is a bit of a sticky one, I would like the clean it up & put
It on a plinth as its been so good, how many other 107k engines have done so much so well & never gone wrong it's never had the head off or even leaked, last time on the rollers it made 320bhp & 350lb
In reality I'll sell it on I do have a mate that's looking into what he would need to fit it into his puma

Neil - I saw you the other day at the roundabout, car looked nice but rather smokey? Hope it's all running in ok!
Yes it was smoking quite badly Neil - I saw you the other day at the roundabout, car looked nice but rather smokey? Hope it's all running in ok!
I've re jigged the breather system which seems to have almost stopped it so am just putting a few miles on it now
Will see how it goes
Cars in for mapping on the 29th
Car looks fantastic!
I have one, nowhere near as fantastic I might say, currently parked up at the garage with a cracked head... You seem to know them inside out and I am at a bit of a loss with it! I have told the garage to get a 2.0 Zetec Blacktop head casting (series 3) and put all the RS specific bits in (Valves / springs etc) as RS heads are discontinued and the internals of mine are fine - does this sound like the right thing to have told them!?
Mine is, reportedly, running around 320-350hp with a hybrid turbo etc so it is (was) a hoot to drive!
Cheers

Is the head off? Where has it cracked it's common for them to go around the spark plug holes but this seems to have no effect on the performance of themI have one, nowhere near as fantastic I might say, currently parked up at the garage with a cracked head... The 2.0 casting is exactly the same so will work fine there was a company selling complete brand new ford heads for not a lot (@£300 iirc) not long ago so if you can find them that would be ideal
The only difference in the head is the exhaust valves are sodium filled even the 2.0 cams are the same
That be said plenty have run 400bhp+ on stock zetec valves so I wouldn't be overly concerned
Thanks for the info! Very much appreciated.
Head is off and yes, it does have cracks around the spark plugs. In fairness they showed me the head and there were some other areas of damage (pitting / minor cracking) on the casting too so I think it is at the end of its life!
So I can basically put on a standard Zetec Blacktop head and it will do the job - there seems to be precious little info on the web so I was going with the valves/springs/cams were RS specific and needed bolting into the new head casting!
Anyway, that may help move it on as it has been with them for 4 months!
Cheers

You welcome it sucks when they are out of action for a while I'm really missing mine now the weathers improving Head is off and yes, it does have cracks around the spark plugs. Well it didn't go exactly to plan
Car started to smoke again but on the plus side it looks like it's just my breather tank isn't allowing enough flow still so I'll replace that with something better
Also the stock ecu is limiting things with the mapping so I'm having an omex aftermarket ecu fitted so I can get the best out of my set up
Hopefully car will be back with me in a couple of weeks.

Well I haven't posted any updates in quite some time.
Shortly after my last post the cause of the smoking was found when the turbo failed completely, this was sorted under warranty with turbo technics very quickly but it was still a pita.
Car then fell short of the power aims as the turbo maxed out at 388bhp with 440lb this made a fast car &
I ran it like this until the car came off the road for its winter rest.

Over the winter I looked at various options & kept coming back to the peron v band turbo set up which is made
In conjunction with Nortec so after having a chat with lee at devil developments I ordered the set up with a gtx3071r turbo
the set up
with the old t36 turbo
new & old manifold
I then returned the car to lee at Devils & got this
I'm really happy with the result & am now looking forward to enjoying the car over the summer

just calculate the BSAC and see what sort of silly number you get...
What is this? Always happy to be educatedA typical best stoichiometric fuel consumption of 250g/kWh is an equivalent air consumption of 3.7kg/kWh - about 33.5% thermal efficiency.
At peak power for an NA engine it's more likely to be 3.3-3.4kg/kWh. It's unlikely to be much lower than this figure, especially if you are in any way knock-limited on ignition timing.
