Was up at Bedford for an open pit lane today and the place was overrun with 944s :-)

Unfortunately we spent half the day red flagged after multiple 944s dumped their fluids on the track and ground to a halt :-(

Had an absolute blast chasing down a black 944 Turbo though. A quick chat in the pits revealed that it was putting out 330bhp, so hardly surprising really!

I saw one red and one black die, but was told there was a third.

We had four long red flag sessions, but I think one of them was a Clio.

The 3 944 failures were all the same thing - oil filter blowing off!

I've never heard of this before, the 2 cars involved (one went out again!) are both regular trackday cars, so it is a bit odd!

The consensus of opinion is the oil pressure relief valve, Bedford being so high speed maybe bringing any problem to the fore.

The car that did it twice drove 60 plus miles Motorway miles home with no further problem.

The other Red Flag was due to a BMW going off I believe.

Approx 31 Frontrunners all in I think.

Some pics of the day here - http://s787.photobucket.com/user/A9XXC/library/944...

One or two tasters -

An alternative opinion regarding the length of the closures: "One in the morning lasting about 15mins, a longer one mid afternoon lasting around 30 minutes and one right at the end when most people had gone home anyway lasting 10mins was the 944 contribution to the stoppages. Multiple 944s = "two".

I was Blyton the other week in my 944 and a Caterham type thing lost its sump plug in front of me. Lucky for him he pulled in the puts. He had no idea that he lost it.

Amazingly he found the plug at lunch time and was back on in the afternoon.

Gutted that I couldn't make Befford with the guys after being snowed off in March. Hopefully next time.

One of the culprits was me - I feel bad about it but I can't see how it could have been predicted or prevented. After the first incident in the morning, no-one really knew why this had happened...I have never seen it before. I cleaned up the car, fitted a new filter, fresh oil, and did another 60 or so track miles before the thing blew again at 4.50. There were hardly any cars left on the track by then.

New OPRV to be fitted before cadwell next week.

I know the OP (assuming you were in the red Cayman) wouldn't have seen my car, as he pulled out of the pit lane right in front of me as I was coming up the straight eeksmile The man in the pit straight was waving cars on, but still expecting you to check for cars on track before you pulled out..

next time - watch out for this.. smile

Don't feel bad - I was there in my 968 CS and it really didn't spoil the day for others.

The beauty of full days is that there is plenty of track time available even with small stoppages.

Is it me or are 944's looking great these days! They are ageing very gracefully.

Mine was my first Porsche and I remember it very fondly.

Sorry Jeremy, you cant have mine! hehe

I was thinking that now their value is firming and even rising for Turbos, that you might be able to get authorisation for nice Turbo...

Yes, that was a bit of fun, wasn't it!! Need to get my boost sorted out before you get that exhaust upgrade!!

Slight exaggeration :-) couple of 15 min red flag sessions due to the 944s didn't spoil the day, I thought!! Last time I was there, an unfortunate soul slammed his car into the Armco, dislodging it and stopping the day completely!
