Griff £ Values / Lack Of
Discussion
As above, been having thoughts the last few months of jumping ship back to an air cooled 911 again, either an SC, a 3.2 Carrera or ideally a 964. But ruddy heck, after lots of looking, the lack of 964s for sale ( few were sold here ) and the daft money being asked for all 3 models is simply unreal. If I do go down the 964 route ( unlikely now ) it will be a resto car.
I sold my first Griff a very nice 96 model for £12,400 In April 2008 and my 88 Carrera for £10,400 in Sept 2008 and struggled to sell it. The 911 is now £40,000 plus, but the Griff has barely risen in value, probably £16 - £18,000 now.
Your thoughts gents ? Am I the only one who thinks the Griff is still way undervalued ?

It is what it is.
When I sold my old chim last year it went for the market price.
I advertised it in all the right places but the market decided that a sorted 325bhp 4.6 was only worth £9.5K and that was that!
BTW, I too am shocked at the Porsche prices as I would dearly love an air cooled but it seems that will not happen

Things started with the financial crisis. City types nervous of banks went looking for somewhere else to store money 'safely'. Gold skyrocketed and high street goldsmiths cropped up overnight, London property prices.... and classic cars. With classic cars don't forget, there is a tax-free return on your gain too.
I don't really think its fair to compare 911 values with TVR values. The 911 is a global product with world wide recognition, by a huge and well respected current day manufacturer. We are talking worldwide investors here. Ask your average American what a TVR is and they might struggle; let alone new investors in China.
The 911 is not alone - the E-type, Healey 3000, 21 window Samba, Ferrari Dino.....
Some of the pinnacle 911s - like the 993 GT2 and 2.7RS will never be driven by their new keepers; just mothballed in order to add another £20k. That makes me sad.
When I scan classifieds, I see most Griffs at 20k plus so I don't think they are doing too bad.
I think you should compare it to other specialist GRP cars like the Esprit - and then values have been in unison.
However, I do think pre-cats are under-valued and SE's are over-valued. Both give the same enjoyment and experience of ownership compared to a 500 yet their values are just ludicrously separated; like twice the price SE vs. pre-cat. It's not twice the car.

Bet you couldn't build it for that price. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...
And what else can you get with similar performance and feel for that price anyway?
Ridiculous value.
Just Look At It

Probably frightened the hell out of himself, I'd be guessing they're seriously tail-happy with all that power and a real handful in anything other than perfect driving conditions.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...
Exactly Andy !! What Else offers those stunning looks, a ground up restoration and that performance for the money ??
But Yes V8......a short wheel base, loads of torque must surely make it an animal on anything but a smooth, dry, straight road ? Shatteringly quick off of the line though!
If I had the spare £ I would buy it.

Either that, or the Griff is valued correctly and too many wealthy numpties have massively over paid for the 964's, highly inflating the prices.I sold my first Griff a very nice 96 model for £12,400 In April 2008 and my 88 Carrera for £10,400 in Sept 2008 and struggled to sell it. And considering the technical differences between a Chim and a Griff, the latter would seem quite pricey for just a slightly different styling look.

Always been a £4k-£5k premium for similar spec/year Griff over an Chimp, not just recently.FFG
I agree Chimaera 500s should at least have parity with the Griff 500 as they cost the same new, they're basically the same car and the rarest Chimaera by a long way.
I really don't 'get' the SE Griff vlues either especially as they're a typical 'run-out' car using bits and pieces left over with some dubious (imho) 'upgrades'

I didn't think the new owner would keep it long......he's a really decent chap, and a total petrolhead, but his list of pre owned cars was the complete opposite of what the Griff is all about........he'd previously owned loads of massive power skylines, subarus, big Audis that sort of thing.....but he wanted to try a TVR for a change.... I suspect the Griff is a bit to basic & old school...
In saying that, if anyone's interested, you should go and snap it up.......it's a good un and is bloody great fun... Certainly the fastest car I've ever owned, or been in, and I doubt I'll ever get anything that quick again
