Looking to replace my carpet in my bedroom with vinyl or laminate - removed the carpet and noticed there is a layer of insulation between the concrete (which can be easily removed)

Would it better to fit underlay then laminate so I can retain the sound deadening aspect between me and the apartment beneath ?

Most click-type flooring has an amount of backing (call it underlay) attached to it. Too much and you get that horrible floating effect.

Laminate in a bedroom = cold feet!

LVT is much warmer than laminate.
I would always have capet in a bedroom over either though.

had a few problems with carpet beetles so don't fancy ever going back really!

only problem i'm having atm is the insulation that was underneath the carpet was glued down, ripping it up has caused lots of it to be stuck to the concrete with what appears to be very strong glue!

If you're in a flat and have neighbors beneath you I wouldn't go for vinyl as they have very thin underlays with minimal sound absorbing. I'd go for a good quality laminate with the best acoustic underlay you can afford

Go for a good quality laminate like Quickstep and use Wickes wood fibre underlay. You won’t have to worry about any imperfections in the subfloor then.

That's down to the wool content - my main carpet is 100% wool and has had beetle problems. But a different mix of materials would be OK so I wouldn't bin carpets just because of past experience.

Is what you call insulation actually underlay? Can you leave it in place?

I think for a bedroom, oak flooring with Persian rugs is the ideal compromise between functional and comfortable.

This ^^^. B&Q have Quickstep packs on 4 for the price 3 occasionally.

Quickstep are probably one of the best laminate flooring brands on the market but wood fibre underlay is terrible for sound insulation
