yes That's why I use the chain that Lenny Henry doesn't advertise. No silly prices plus I have no alternative but to eat somewhere else. The money saved on the room means I can afford to eat at a decent restaurant.
Whilst I don't use that particular chain, as I can usually book a 4* place with pool / gym etc. for the same or often less money.

Whilst I don't agree with taking stuff from peoples rooms, I am of tjhe opinion that a property owner can set whatever rules he likes as long as they are legal.

If you don't like the terms, don't stay there. (Belfry hasn't been good for a long time IMO)

It also depends on the circumstances.
If the OP emptied the room fridge onto the dressing table & the contents replaced with a dozen stella's then that's one thing.

If a guest's bags were gone through & a bottle of scotch removed by a cleaner whilst they were out then that's something different & totally unreasonable, regardless of rather strange t's & c's.

+1 And, if you book far enough in advance, you can get rooms for as low as £19 a night. As I'm going to be asleep for most of my stay, I don't care about any facilities beyond a clean bed.

Hi all, looks like I have been permanently separated from my phone also now. Some thieving scrote has helped themselves to it. Not in the hotel by the way.
A bottle of JD, vodka and a few cans were taken. The room didn't have a fridge to empty. Still spent a fortune in the bar.

After our treatment at the hands of the management at the Belfry, I'd sooner sleep rough than stay there again.

A shower of incompetent, bullying st.

[hotel cleaner] Had to change a bed on Saturday where some dirty bh on a hen night had done just that. Not nice [/hotel cleaner]

But in the 5* resort I work in you can take anything you like into the rooms. To the extent that we are instructed to empty sugar bowls and salt cellars just in case the white powder therein isn't sucrose or sodium chloride!

Umm yeah because this is comparable...

You don't pay to book a table, the core income of a restaurant is the food and drink you order. You are obliged to order something, even if it's inexpensive.

You do pay for a hotel room. For all they know, you may then be out and about during the evenings. You are not obligated to further use their facilities.

I tend to find hotel food for example to be pretty crappy and deff. over priced, as such I'll often go grab a takeaway that I know I'll enjoy rather then endure the dire offering. Not much wrong with that imo. I've booked a room, ie somewhere to stay, that is all.

No? Oh well, so much for that poor analogy.

None of you ever been on a cruise? Done a few with various cruise lines and they've all got similar clauses, only booze you're allowed in your room is that bought at the bar.
Depends on the cruise line.

I know someone who routinely and openly takes best part of a case of wine on each cruise. Cruise line quite happy for him to pay very modest corkage if it's consumed in a public area. No issue at all if consumed in room.

Last time I stayed at a hotel alone I bought some cans of lager from the local off licence and drank them in my room. I did think at the time that they may prefer me to use the bar but I just wanted to watch some TV in my room, I wasn't going to pop down to the bar in my PJ's every 1/2 hour to get a pint. Bottles are a rip off.
