Jazz can you white list me again?

Correct. You were whitelisted for months but never bothered playing so the game clearly isn't of much interest to you. The server is open to anyone who enjoys the game and spends a decent amount of time playing it when time allows but I'm not wasting my time whitelisting people who aren't going to bother playing nor the one-hit wonders who log in once, have a quick look round, decide it's all too much like hard work and then never see them again, usually leaving some half built eyesore within render distance.MC id = grumpytwig

I now have a working system! It looks proper Heath Robinson, but as Rob will tell you, I don't really aim for aesthetics - as long as I works I'm happy!
The gold is delivered adjacent to the base of the ladder, and the rotten flesh is disposed of in lava. Job jobbed!
It doesn't work at all. I've just spent 30 mins there after starting the timers and filling up the hopper and there is no gold to be found anywhere. Waste of time. Please build a functioning design. The gold is delivered adjacent to the base of the ladder, and the rotten flesh is disposed of in lava. Job jobbed!
Two parts need to be set up and checked before this system works.
The Clocks.
Due to chunk loading, the clocks might or might not be going when you enter the nether. If a clock is not working remove and replace the redstone wire next to the switch. Then flick the switch on and off to give a pulse which will start the clock. There are four clocks, one to power the lift by each stop of the collecting minecart. One does treble duty and powers another lift, and also the dropper that disposes of the rotten flesh into the lava.
The Sorting Hopper.
This hopper sorts out the wheat from the chaff. When you check it before you start, it should have 18 rotten flesh in the LHS slot, and one each in the other slots.
Can you not automate that? It sounds like a nightmare and although I can probably figure it out given enough time I doubt anyone else will and simply not use it. I think it was impulsesv on youtube that did an auto-emptying enderman XP farm for the ender balls without a clock. It worked by a comparator and when the hopper was full it would detect it and auto eject the balls into the void. I imagine you need something like that. I wouldn't waste too much time on it as the gold farm will be rendered completely useless when 1.8 arrives which should be any day now.

Wow..... :\ Was that really called for? I don't recall doing anything like you describe and sometimes people do get distracted by other games or real life etc.

I'm gonna give the gold farm a whirl tonight, need it for some powered rails to work on my minecart network.
I need to go diamond mining again soon to, what level do I go to (for lava avoidance and spawn etc) is it 11 or 12?
Press F3 and have your Y co-ordinate show as 11. Lava will be at foot level then. Take a water bucket with you to pour against a block to turn the lava into obby so you can walk on it, but don't pour the water on the lava itself as you'll lose the water. Take a fortune 3 iron or diamond pick with you to mine the diamond with to increase your chances of more gem drops.I need to go diamond mining again soon to, what level do I go to (for lava avoidance and spawn etc) is it 11 or 12?
Take a few extra ladder pieces with you when you go to gold farm.
Aye, I got your message, and think you may be right...
And as to the other point, I've spent a few hours this morning totally rebuilding the collection/disposal system at the gold farm. I think the main problem was that I was funneling everything together, then applying the filter to get rid of the rotten flesh, and it was this that created the huge bottle-neck.
The redesign has a filter at every feed now, so there is now little chance of getting a log-jam.
I also organised it so there is only one clock, so the whole thing is easier to use.
I'm in testing mode at the moment, but first impressions are that it is way faster!

I used it the other day and it was working well in terms of gold collection. Think over a combined couple of hours AFK I got a full stack of gold blocks, which is a lot of nuggets as you know. Pity that ZPM don't produce iron as I'm gonna be hurting for that very soon. Need to make about 2000 pistons and about 500 hoppers. And as to the other point, I've spent a few hours this morning totally rebuilding the collection/disposal system at the gold farm. That sounds about right - I've just run two tests, the first was 1hr 22mins, and yeilded a full chest and 7 stacks of nuggets, the 2nd was a smidge over an hour, and was about 10 stacks short of full. Also, the new gold farm system works an absolute treat!
Nope, the number of people online shouldn't affect the spawning rates at all, as long as you're the only one in that loaded chunk. (I think - Rob'll be along in a minute to tell me I'm wrong! )
The weird thing is that usually the golem farm is as slow as a pensioner in a Honda Jazz - why does it suddenly perform really well from time to time?

I don't know and it's a question that I want answering too. I'm pretty sure that the design built should be a lot faster than what it is though. The weird thing is that usually the golem farm is as slow as a pensioner in a Honda Jazz - why does it suddenly perform really well from time to time?
