Guys, I've recreated minecraftpg5's rainbow fighter on our world. It's down on the beach behind the tree farm spawn. Been having loads of fun playing with Mike, Matt and Steve this past half hour.

@ LPSN, Luke have you abandoned your "under construction" base next to the portal? Not seen anything change there for nearly 2 months. I want to make a proper room/construction for the portal there but not much space to work with. Bobhughes has vacated that cobble house already.

ATJ/Rik/Rob please treat others with respect in future. Accidents happen and shouting at someone who had donated $20 to you a few days earlier is NOT how you should behave.
Everyone else, please beware of creepers near the igloo at the spawn area.

Everyone else, please beware of creepers near the igloo at the spawn area. I suggest you look closer to home re your comments on "respect" before dishing it out. If you had some respect for other people's stuff then you wouldn't have found yourself being shouted at. And to blame me for your stupidity was just the icing on the cake. Any normal person would have started off by apologising but I guess that was to much to ask. How about you spend 2 hours making ice moulds and then I lead a load of creepers to it and raze it to the ground and let's see what happy response you make eh? The fact that you have donated to the cost of running the server makes absolutely no difference, however if is going to be an issue for you then it can be refunded back to your account just as quickly as it was donated.

If you had not thrown your toys out the pram within a few seconds of the accident happening, then I would have fixed everything. I left the server because I will not be talked to like that. End of discussion.

That was what pissed me off. It's fixed now and has a fence round it at some distance so let's move on.

Right guys, I need some basic guidance on Minecraft mods please! You lot seem fairly advanced and like you might know!
Situation: - I've played a couple of earlier versions before with no mods, and have a fairly nice game where i've built an awesome glass tower (as well as collecting quite a few resources) that i'd like to keep! - I bought and downloaded the latest version of MC today (1.2.5) - I've got the Technic Pack launcher and want to play with some mods now, ideally where i can build some more advanced machines. (and singleplayer only - not fussed about mutiplayer right now)
Questions: 1) I can see that the Technic Pack contains several packs of mods (Technic, Tekkit, Yogbox etc) but I can't find anywhere a guide on the key differences between them and why you'd choose one over another. Can anyone spell out the differences before i invest a load of time in one of them?
2) I imported the old save game mentioned above and launched it with the Technic Pack (with the Technic mods.) All works fine. However, there are new resources like Copper and Uranium in the mod pack, but the big question is whether these are seeded in the world when i imported the save? Or do i need to start afresh with a new game to be able to find these?

You want the technic pack.
You can't use your old map.
You can steal any buildings from your old map and put them in a newly generated world using MCEdit or similar (No I don't know how to do it!)
Old maps wont have any of the mod items that are made by world generation, ores, rubber trees and many other things will be missing for you if you try.
Hit up Direwolf20s videos on youtube for tutorials for industrialcraft and buildcraft tutorials also redpower2 (all in the technicpack, direolf doesn't play technic pack though so not all applicable)

Imho it should work just fine, BUT only in previously unexplored areas (aka unloaded chunks). The mod stuff won't "spawn" in areas already explored/walked on/flown over/caved through, but should be fine in new areas. I had this when I installed Buildcraft and EquivalentExchange - to get any oil I had to go and explore areas I'd never been to before. Depending on how old the world is there may be an issue with the sea level as it was raised up a block on one of the later Beta versions if I recall correctly. You will get a 'lip' in the sea where this has happened - on the edge of last loaded chunk - but it's not game breaking.

The main difference is that Technic pack is single player, Tekkit is multi-player. If you want to see what individual mods are installed with each build, click on the "Mod Select" button in the Technic Launcher window, below and to the left of the password box. It is then a matter of checking the general wiki http://technicpack.wikia.com/wiki/Technic_Pack_Wik... or Googling the individual packs. I find watching Direwolf20's Youtube videos very useful.

I should have clarified, it is a collossally bad idea to try to use an old map unless you just spawned and quit, as you'll have to go a long way to get terrain to regenerate and if you're fond of your current world it'll probably have quite a lot in it already meaning a huge mission to get new resources.

Depends whether you're the sort of person to stick to one area or do loads of exploring. I'm in single player world I haven't ventured more than about 300 blocks or so from spawn, as I had all the biomes close by and it was decent terrain. I still don't see the problem with moving to new chunks to build rather than scrapping all your hard work.

Have just finished my huge auto wheat farm! Got it planted and bonemeal-ed with rik's assistance, then fired all 10 bays at once... Won't be doing that again, had 5mins of rik not being able to move at all due to the lag, and I was getting way less than 1fps... Gathered up all the wheat and seeds eventually, and got more than a full chest of wheat and seeds respectively! Next time, I'll just harvest one bay at a time... Anyhows, a couple of pics!

I clarified fully after your first post, the mod makers themselves advise a new save not using old ones, I gave all the information after you pulled me up on it first time around, I don't know what more to say. You haven't added any information for the questioner here just tried to make out that my advice was bad, I don't write mods, if the makers say to use a new save, who am I to argue?

after watching a few videos on youtube I got minecraft yesterday and ended up heading to bed about 3 am I'm only just getting started but can see a fair whack of time being put into it. Only running it on a netbook type laptop, runs ok-ish with all the graphics options turned down. I'm not sure if it seems a bit backwards looking at a beefier computer for running something that looks as relatively low tech as minecraft!

You haven't added any information for the questioner here just tried to make out that my advice was bad, I don't write mods, if the makers say to use a new save, who am I to argue? But yet he actually says in the discussion on reddit that the mod will work fine in fresh chunks, which is the same as any mod. It's like when the terrain gen changed in minecraft a while back, it was advised that new worlds would be needed and it all got very scare-mongery but the old worlds continue to work fine and the new biomes generate just fine so long as you walk to fresh chunks. Yes, some sharp edges resulted where the terrain suddenly changed but that's a small price to pay vs. scrapping everything you've done since you started playing the game. Re exploring in my map, of course, but I'd say at the very max I didn't travel more than 1000 blocks from spawn as the terrain was such that I had no reason to. The new terrain/biomes mean you have to travel now to find all the resources, but you didn't need to in the early beta terrain and alpha prior to that. The only reason I replied was because you stated that it categorically wouldn't work - "you can't use your old map" - when in actual fact that is not true even by your own admission above - "the mod makers themselves ADVISE a new save" - two completely different things... The OP specifically said that he had builds that he wanted to keep and my response was simply stating that it could be done and happened to correct yours at the same time. I'm not understanding your hostility, sorry.
