They charge for Xbox Live ( the only games console that does), which considering practically every game is mostly based online is a bit of a rip off.

When you purchase Windows, they don't include any of their standard software unless you pay extra for it, again the only one to do so. They charge for anything other than the most basic of Tech support, and even charge the FBI for information requests related to terrorist threats.

When i bought my Xbox 360, it had no Blu-ray unless you paid extra and you couldn't watch DvD's unless you paid extra for a remote control. All of this was included with the PS3 at the same price.

Sony also charges for their online service so uh no.

If the software isn't included it's not standard is it? if the FBI request something surely they would have to do extra work which should be chargeable? If someone dragged my resources away from work I'd sure as hell want to charge for them.

Finally the PS3 was a more expensive console and I'm not aware of blu ray being an optional extra, I thought that was hd DVD? I never had a remote for my Xbox and watching DVDs was fine.... I think someone believes the internet a little to much.

Back on topic, I do hope Microsoft buying it doesn't effect the Ps4s version as I've just bought a Ps4 and Minecraft!

No they don't i can play games online without a monthly subscription.

As i stated this was from personal experience not the internet, The original Xbox 360 releases like the original Xbox required a remote to play DvD's and the remote cost me £35. Given the Blu-ray and remote issue the PS3 worked out cheaper to buy as a like for like on equipment.

I don't think they would pull the plug, especially as they'll be looking to get their money's worth out of it and any existing contracts would probably carry over. I do expect the Xbox to get the usual array of early release on updates / DLC's / etc.

Can't be bothered to read all the way back through this thread, but is there a Pistonheads Minecraft server?

Mob & XP drops from the various farms on the server have definately taken a hit since 1.8 arrived. I've been AFking at the gold farm for over an hour and it's only filled perhaps a 3rd of a chest with nuggets. I'm sure a few weeks ago it would be on the 2nd chest by now.

ZPM only drop gold if you kill them manually since 1.8. My mob farm is still working as efficiently as before. There is a bug with the new mob AI in 1.8 though, as you can walk up to most mobs and kill them before they even "see" you.

Is this the same with all mobs? Or just ZPM?

Tom, there may have been a small accident with the wiring for your iron farm. Could you fix up please? Place redstone on stone brick blocks (some in chest) so we can tell there's something above it. The redstone was laid on sand so didn't realise what had happened til too late. Ta.

Do all mobs only drop loot when killed? I.e. No loot from them falling etc?

Only ZPM to stop gold farms. Others drop okay.

I've fixed the iron farm, also added an 'afk hole' you just stand in there (on the pressure plate) and the iron will auto collect in the chest.

I've also modified the slime farm (my own design) but the spawn rates seem very low. It could be with mobs spawning on the surface above maybe? If anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

Seems that ZPM should still be working. It was changed in a snapshot but then reverted in the next one.

14w03a Now only drop gold nuggets/gold swords when killed by the player, either through combat or potions, or player-activated mechanisms such as manually lit TNT. If killed without player intervention, only drops rotten flesh. This makes automatic gold farms impossible.
14w04a The pre-mentioned change was reverted.

confused

I think an enderman style farm above the nether would make an excellent gold farm.

I tried the gold farm and there was a problem with the hopper carts and the wiring. I tried to fix it up but it wasn't working so I think something's changed in 1.8. I've removed it as zombie meat is valuable now so we don't want to bin it and it seems to be collecting in the chests OK.. But.. the change to the mob AI in 1.8 means that the ZPM aren't as willing to walk off the platforms as they were before. They DO still do it but there's a noticeable drop in efficiency.

Another issue which has been on the bug tracker for several game versions now is that your hunger bar depletes to nothing after a few mins stood at the AFK spot. This shouldn't happen as hunger shouldn't deplete when stood doing nothing. Interestingly I found a comment on the bug tracker where someone has noticed it's only in the vicinity of large amounts of hostile mobs. The issue is also present when stood at the AFK spot at Mike's "X Farm" so there could be some merit to this as the ZPM are also considered to be hostile mobs and you are within about 25 blocks range of them and they spawn in large amounts. I've not noticed this rapid hunger bar depletion issue anywhere else in the world....

Steve I've come up with a fantastic idea for the squid farm but it's going to involve getting a guardian in a mine cart... hehe

Tom I've not been to the slime farm recently. In fact I've not had reason to use any of the slime blocks yet!

Just finished a semi-auto cave spider XP, string and spider eye farm! spin It's in the basement of jetblankoneten and monkeyspeed's base, which is signposted down the East nether tunnel. Not polished it up yet but the functionailty is fully working.

Features:

- Full written instructions for use.
- Light switch on/off to enable/disable spawner.
- Continuous AFK spawning without spiders reaching the game's standard 80 mob cap so you can harvest hundreds at a time.
- Crushing mechanism with shut off gate to reduce spiders to a 1 punch kill.
- XP collection at kill point without losing orbs in water stream (common problem with other designs).
- Automatic collection and storage of string and spider eyes in basement.

To do list:

Install fisherman villager with best string trade for infinite emerald trading. smile

I think Steve is doing something with that, he was on about it earlier in the chat. Or it could be that someone has left the gate open at the spawner and they're all loose... ?

Just finished a full auto gold nugget, gold ingot, zombie flesh and XP farm! spin It's replaced the old broken gold farm and is accessed up the same ladder.

Features:

- Full auto. You don't even have to swing your sword or punch your fist. Just sit in the cart, flick the lever and on the first run throw a snow ball at 'The Golden Child' in the glass enclosure at the far end and then just sit back and AFK.
- Crushing mechanism kills the ZPM on a timer and loot is collected by hoppers and sorted into the appropriate chests.
- XP is collected each time you pass by in the cart.
- Overflow protection on the hoppers and chests in case you AFK all week hehe. Once chests are full any new items will be diverted to an incinerator.
- ZPM "rare drops", ie. gold ingot drops are also farmed as the piston crusher has been set up to count as a player kill.
- Ender chest & enchanting station.
- Full instructions for use.

1 hour AFK resulted in :

- 31 stacks of gold nuggets.
- 1.5 stacks of gold ingots ("rare drops").
(= 43 gold blocks).
- 30 stacks of zombie flesh.
- 96 levels of XP eek.

To do list :

- Install rest of minecart elevator tower.
- Install cleric villager for zombie flesh trading.

Cautions:

For reasons unknown to me occasionally the ZPM will go neutral and refuse to be re-angered when throwing another snowball. The only fix(es) I've discovered are either to relog and wait a few seconds to see if they return to being hostile OR leave the area altogether, ie. go all the way down to the bottom of the ladder, wait a min and then return and start over with the process.

Also I've had issues with the hunger bar bug up there where it rapidly depletes (within a few mins after the saturation wears off) and you starve to death if you don't eat. This has only happened when stood about up there. If I've been in the cart itself I've not had any issues and your hunger bar disappears anyway when you're in a minecart so that might have something to do with that.

For the time being I don't recommend going fully AFK yet. I did exactly that earlier and came back to find myself dead and all my gear had despawned (luckily only my armour which I'd forgotten to take off). The kill screen said killed by ZPM, which I couldn't understand as there's no way for them to get out. Then I found a spot outside of the trap which I hadn't slabbed to prevent them spawning, so it's obvious he spawned on that and that's how he got me in the cart. I've rechecked the area and it all looks good now. Did a full hour partially AFK and no problems so should be safe now but as a precaution I recommend putting all your good stuff in a chest before you go AFKing there. smile

YOU *MUST* hit the ZPM with a snowball as this allows you to anger them without him taking any damage. If you hit the ZPM any other way, he will lose health and eventually die which means the farm breaks and I'll be very pissed off because I'll have to get another expensive name tag and get another ZPM into the chamber. So please, snowballs only.
