The vote has happened, the closure has been axed.

Big climb down, hopefully resignations to follow.

What a waste of money, thanks to the inept pinkos for wasting around £1m of our money.

Clueless, utterly clueless.

Well it's not as if we couldn't have predicted this from the off.

A council run by a Dixons salesman and his band of student union political advisors was never going to be a good thing.

I'm glad that anyone fined illegally is getting their money back, but am sad that the impact on York will be felt and paid for by residents for quite some time.

When it comes to election time please remember this and if you can vote these incompetent clowns out.

As has been shown, since when has something not being legal made a blind bit of difference to the way YCC interpret the law as appplicable to vehicles?

A moot point now anyway.

York Council doesn't have legal power to give away £1m to the public
As has been said the closure was legal, the way they collected the fines was not.

As I read it they are not giving away anything. They are returning peoples' money that they took illegally.

Given that latter point I'd love it if someone took JA, DM et all to court for attempted theft!

Anyone else notice that the bridge was getting resurfaced last night?

I wonder if that was due to having to replace all the tarmac around the burnt off lettering or unrelated?

If the former more unwarranted costs for the York tax council tax payer to carry.

If you've been fined, or know someone who has, please be aware that you need to apply to get your money back from these contemptible thieves.

Fat/Skinny JA: To repay this money means you'll have to have cuts to services.

Wow, talk about rats and sinking ships.

A bloody disgrace, it's not their money, it never was their money and due to their high handed incompetance the council tax payer foots the bill.

Does anyone know if the local government ombudsman can fine/ban incompetant local officials for this kind of idiocy?

My understanding is that the old rules apply i.e. the cameras are turned off, however, unlike the bridge that has been for years a perfectly reasonably bus/taxi only street between certian hours. So i wouldnt rush to risk driving down it.

As far as fine refunds from it are concnerned i'm not sure what the score is. As you say, and if i recall, the cameras couldn't be used for fines here either so a refund may be possible. I'd give them a shout and see what happens. Worst case they say no.

To be fair today was unusually busy.

Black Friday, last, but one payday to Xmas, start of St Nicholas's fair, and a school training day etc Who knows?

Well credit where it's due that good to hear.

I'll still not vote for the buggers, but at least it seems like there's a human being with a modicum of sense in charge of the local Labour Party at last.

More refunds coming if you got caught on Coppergate!

Remember this ongoing costly farce was brought to you by The Labour Party. Defining the concept of fiscal incompetence since 1900.
