Anyone doing the "Mini Miglia" next month?
Discussion
Just sent my entry off for the Knowldale Mini Miglia Road Run.
"The event will start at NWA Auctions near Kirkby Lonsdale and will cover approximately 165 miles of classic Mini Miglia roads before finishing at Banny's Fish Restaurant in Colne (Fish & Chip tea included)."
It's not a competition but there will be some timed tests under a separate permit and there is an option of navigating a "suggested" route to sample that rally experience.
I've never done one of these before but I'm really looking forward to it - there looks to be some nice cars entered already, the promise of some good roads and fish & chips laid on at the end. What more could you ask for?

I was worried the historic rally links might mean the route was a bit rough so I emailed the organiser. He said:
"The course car for the event is a 2012 C30 Volvo, so the roads are of a good standard. There are two fords in the route, but we have put a cut in the route just in case you don't want to go through them or the course car decides its a little too deep for the cars. I went round the route on Monday and there are some really good roads that haven't been on any events for a long time but all the roads are tarmac."
Entries so far range from tasty classics such as a Jaguar XK150 and Porsche 912 all the way through to a Vauxhall Tigra.

.... I've booked the day off work, convinced someone the 6am departure is a good idea, I just have a few questions if I may?
- I've never done one of these runs before, is it like the one Top Gear did? An average speed from checkpoint to checkpoint? Or just an excuse to run out with nice cars and fellow pistonheads?
- Is anyone from Huddersfield/Leeds area going and fancy a convoy over?
- Is a standard 1990 Mercedes SL500 going to be too low to sensibly do it in? I know it says mostly Tarmac but every picture I've found on google of this sort of thing, the cars are covered in mud? I don't mind getting her mucky but it doesn't take much to beach the damn thing!!
- Finally other than entry fee and petrol are there any other costs I'm over looking?
Thanks, I'll email the guys organising it later but I wondered if anyone on here had some tips or advice first.
.....quite excited about it now!!

Nice one Daryl! Definitely email Steve the organiser, I'm sure he'll be very helpful and clarify things for you.
I'll tell you what I think I know, but this is very dangerous as I've never done one of these before either...
It's effectively a scenic tour - but - you set off at intervals and there is an optional route to follow with checkpoints of a sort so you can experience the classic rally roads of the 50's and 60's. Effectively this means as a team you can experience old style rally navigation and of course I'm sure some crews will take pleasure from making progress in safe manner and visiting as many key locations as possible I understand there is the option of harder road-rally navigation to follow if you really want a challenge.
In addition there will be the chance to do some "tests" on private land. These are seperate to the main event. I'm expecting these to be a run around some cones like this, featuring benjj at 19:31 (but hopefully less wet) (note big merc just before him too!)

This run is what is known as a "Touring Assembly". There is no timing at all, no requirement to go fast or slow and you're not forced to follow a fixed route. The point of this is to ensure there is no competition element on the public road so no special insurance or preparation is required etc. It's effectively a scenic tour - but - you set off at intervals and there is an optional route to follow with checkpoints of a sort so you can experience the classic rally roads of the 50's and 60's. Yes, but I think I'll already be in a rush at 6am just to get sorted and there! We'll be faffing around as my co-driver needs to be in Leeds by 6pm so we're going to leave his car in Colne for a fast getaway.Paz565 said:

I expect the roads to be a lot like this video. I think there will be a good percentage of bumpy, narrowish country roads so an SL might be a challenge - but, check with Steve Warrington for a proper answer.Paz565 said:

Only lunch I think, fish and chips is included afterwards Edited by moribund on Monday 17th February 21:13
I might have a go if I can find someone to do it with, anyone need a nav,
The navigation is supposed to be pretty simple according to someone I know in Knowldale CC.

Lythe Fell, a lot better driven in the dark.Ahhh, no worries!
The entry list has been updated.
Already looking like an interesting mix of classics, rally prepped moderns and daily-drivers. I'm pretty sure the Micra will be rally-prepped and the Corolla I think is a rear-wheel-drive rally car too. Hopefully the tests are on smooth-ish tarmac so we can challenge them.
Will be fascinating to see how everyone approaches this. Looking forward to just meeting everyone and having a nosey around the cars, let alone the drive out.
