I can live in hope! Worried I might beat you? tongue out

Something like the Hawes test in the vid would be great, quarries and farmers fields, not so much

I'm always worried about everything smile

We did an awesome test on the Ilkley Jubilee a few years ago, hillclimb up from Bolton Abbey and across ridiculously muddy and rutted fields to finish on gravel.

Funny you should mention the Jubilee ... found an old Jubilee roadbook online so we went out this morning and did page 18 as a practice to see how it works ( Blubberhouses Quarry to Coldstones Quarry - click for map).

Well it was bloody good fun! Adding the roadbook transforms how you approach the drive and makes it much more interesting. It's pretty intense to be honest.

My mate did an excellent job on the notes. We finished with him feeling mildly travel sick and an average speed of 44.5mph (higher than expected largely due to 3 miles on the stupidly straight Sandy Gate/Blake Gate road).

Lessons learnt? Travel sick pills are a must and we need to pace ourselves and not go so full-on for a full day of it. Tulips are straightforward to navigate with on country roads. And I can easily imagine the hard steering wheel rim in the Elise giving me blisters on a full day.

I think you description of the Mini Miglia is pretty much spot on, a Touring Assembly, not a regularity Rally. I'm sure it will be an excellent day out and a taster for what you might expect on a competitive event.

Not sure what the Tests are likely to be like or how they are getting around the permit issue. It will probably be an Autotest permit and I'd suggest the clip of the Ropeworks is going to be reasonably close. Unlikely to be the 'hillclimb' type mentioned by Ben (Hawepike Farm that... mega test.)

I'm toying with the idea of coming up with the Alfa, it's not had a decent run out for a while, would be nice to see some of those roads in Daylight for a change!.

'Smooth Tarmac'..... now where have I heard that before. wink

Another two potential entries? I should be on commission. It'd better be good after all this hype, lol.

Logbert - If you've read the whole thread then you know as much about it as I do!

Entry posted tonight, word is that the special tests will be happening and could be quite challenging. smile

Just realised it's nearly 2 years since I did any form of Rally in the drivers seat, I'm going to have forgotten what to do.

Eeeek it might be a good job they're optional then. I'll be bringing my camera no matter what.

Quite interested in this but a little worried that my 911SC will be a bit low...

Are the roads all tarmac or are there dirt tracks/forest fire roads included?

If they happen the tests are optional, I expect most will shy off.

I'd expect the actual route to be all on metalled roads, mostly 'yellows' IE marked as Yellow on the OS maps. You would only have a problem with ground clearance if you were going a bit too quickly. They are unlikely to be smooth though, the film clip shown earlier pretty much summed up the type of road.

That's what I was told by the organiser when I asked. My Elise is no rally car but he thought I'd be fine.

I was worried the historic rally links might mean the route was a bit rough so I emailed the organiser. He said:

"The course car for the event is a 2012 C30 Volvo, so the roads are of a good standard. There are two fords in the route, but we have put a cut in the route just in case you don't want to go through them or the course car decides its a little too deep for the cars. I went round the route on Monday and there are some really good roads that haven't been on any events for a long time but all the roads are tarmac."

Entries so far range from tasty classics such as a Jaguar XK150 and Porsche 912 all the way through to a Vauxhall Tigra.

There was an Elise out on the Clitheronian rally last year, same sort of roads but much higher speeds. It survived intact.

There you go dugsud, as long as you enjoy B roads your 911 should be ideal. I can't imagine its any lower than an Elise?

This will be no problem in an SC, my friends rally one very competitively (won the London Lisbon in it, plenty of ground clearance.

Awesome, gets better and better.

I've had a minor setback, I have a nail in a tyre. Can't be repaired so I need to replace both the rears, boo.
