Probably about time it stopped for a year or so. It has lost its original appeal and purpose, though it'd be a shame for the air ambulance charity.

One thing i found hillarious was the people putting flyers under wipers, other people got flyers for the Rico Rally and tuning stuff

Under the wiper of my Jag XJ was a flyer for a golfing sale

Can't say it was what I expected really....

Got there as early as I dare (7.45am) and managed to get parked in a decent spot. Initially the cars which came in were of a high quality, many a Porsche, obviously, but some nice Italian marques, old school cool with the escorts and MK1 GTI's, a few well cared for Japanese numbers and a nice selection of American muscle too. However, as the morning developed, in came the thugs.

I appreciate that we are all enthusiasts, however if you know, in the bottom of your heart, that most people don't like what you have done to your car, or how you drive it, or the fact it sets off alarms within a 500 yard radius. If you wake up in the morning, step over your empty white lightning bottle and ashtray full of spliff ends, decide which pair of tracksuit bottoms you are going to peal off the floor, and cap, and hoodie. If the first words you mutter in a morning are expletives, you meet in Macdonalds to stick some trays under your back wheels and call the police anything other than, 'the police'. Then perhaps you should question what events are suited to your style?

The same has happened with the V-DUB scene over in Harewood, initially was great, full of like minded people who enjoyed it and the night events were brilliant with people taking it steady and being mindful of others. Now there is a clear divide of enthusiasts and morons, the enthusiast side is sadly dwindling with the morons taking over further more, becoming a particular nuisance when filled with Carling.

I drive a Subaru Impreza... I know, did I not just describe myself right?! eek Wrong, I have avoided the stick on bits, super sound system and neon lights for all the right reasons, I am an enthusiast, not a moron. (most of the time!)

I think judging panel is a great idea, not to turn people away, but to organise, shall we say - exclusive congregations of like-minded individuals.

I don't even care if I am not put with the supercars as I quite rightly should be (echem!) biglaugh but it does mean that I don't have to walk past a cloud of pot smoke being thumped out of a 1.2 Corsa window by 10,000watts of bassline, filled with questionable individuals, to clap my eyes on a highly polished and rare classic RR...

A logistical nightmare I am sure, but surely a positive outcome for all... I would be happy to be your Simon Cowell !

Other than that it was great!! Seriously though, 80% of the turnout had the right idea, met some good people and I will be there again next time, might even stay past 10am! smile

Well it looks like this was my first and last time attending this meet as the general consensus from what i have read here is that

1. If i bring the Jag - a Standard car but a good daily driven example of 308 XJ then i will be taking up space and putting someone with a flasher cars nose out of joint as they wont be able to park

2. If i come down in my customised Mondeo i am a pot smoking chav who has nothing better to do than wheelspin allover the play and blast music out as loud as i can

Impreza though? You do realise most people judging would put you in the same group as the corsas biggrin

Point taken though in all seriousness. I said after the last one I attended it would be a good idea to rest the event or maybe to have a specific sportscar/supercar day or move it to the showground and have a carpark for the impreza/corsa drivers to go in and have invited cars in the show area.

I'm sure there is a way forward. I understand the motivation to carry on with it, its still a great event but ultimately people are there to see Porsche/sportscars/supercars not Corsas with half finished boot builds or even tuned Ford Focuses.

The cars in the park event is a good example of an event that started small and got big but the parking is managed and stuff there so if you dont want to see a bunch of Fiestas you simply avoid walking over to that area.

Probably time for something to happen as this year the interesting cars were definitely in the minority.

I've attended everyone of these meets and they certainly have grown big style since they started. It's always good to catch up with people I've got to know over the years and have a chat, as well as look at all the metal that shows up.

There's a lot of opinions on it going downhill, has had it's day and stereotyping certain cars and people but for me I think everyone has a right to show up with their pride and joy. But smoking weed (if in fact people were) and playing inappropriate music (lyrically) should be frowned upon.

It's certainly frustrating trying to get parked and this is what success does to an event, but if I wanted a place closer to showroom I should have got my tharse out of bed earlier biggrin, or not gone a nice drive out with friends beforehand.

I for one will still attend, and as mentioned, more people there generates a lot more support for the AA.

I don't think anyone is having a dig at you, or not-so-flash cars being there, the point is that the vast majority of people go to this and such events to see unusual stuff that you don't see every day. That's what I go to see anyway.

I think it's good that there is all sorts of things there, including customised stuff. Everyone likes to see a good piece of work whether it be your Mondeo or a Ferrari, but there's a difference between that and a £50 Corsa with half it's paint missing, a spray painted dash board and a couple of sheets of MDF with massive speakers glued on.

Also nobody is stereotyping you or anyone else for what they arrive in, those lads WERE smoking weed (or someone close by to them) and they DID blast inappropriate 'music' out as loud as they could. If you were on a relaxing beach holiday somewhere and a few people came along and started having a rave, smoking, swearing etc whilst you were building sandcastles with your kids, you wouldn't be best pleased. It's as others have already said, there's a time and a place.

It wasn't just them though, we got up really early and were literally the first ones to arrive (7:00am - and we came from Hull) so parked right outside Specialist cars & there were quite a few more exotic cars that came flying past chucking stones out everywhere. My paint is knackered anyway so I wasn't that bothered, but the other guys weren't so pleased!!

If you get up early, you get the best places. Exactly the same as it is with sunbeds cool

No matter what happens though I will continue to attend as I really enjoyed it. I just avoided the area where those lads were sat wobble

Unfortunately these things do go through cycles - I went to 2-3 consecutive events but have given the last couple a miss due to the McDonald's Massive (MM).

I think having a thumbs up or thumbs down on the entrance to the estate would be a bad idea and would cause arguments and abuse.

The other option could be defined areas for marques but again that's difficult due to the amount of marshalling required and people turning up at different times.

In my opinion (that's worth nowt - I know) you either leave it as-is, appreciate what SCOM are putting on and let people sort themselves out. Or - cancel it for a bit so it dies down and then start back up when the MM have moved on, but not ideal as you'll be back at square one before you know it. The final option is to have cars pre-register for the event so that parking areas and numbers can be better managed and all those that want to turn up in their daily hack but still have a wander round can do so, they'd just have to park a bit further away. That's what happens at more traditional car shows that I've been to and the exception is if you turn up in something suitably exotic then you usually get waved through to park in the show area - only issue is that it takes a lot of clerical work for somebody to administrate for no real pay off.

It was my first time at this event, so can't compare it to previous years, but to be honest i thought it was ok. I don't really think the odd enclave of
bass obsessed yoofs was a big deal.

They are after all car enthusiasts same as everyone else, unfortunately with insurance as it is they can't customise their cars
in the same way as us old gits did when we were yoofs. So instead of twin 40's they have to make do with sodding great stereos.
leave em be i say, who knows in a few years they might be the ones turning up in Porches and Ferraris etc

As for the weed, it's pretty endemic at any public gathering these days, and i can't image the kids being particularly shocked at the odd bit of bad language
being played loudly, surely nothing they haven't heard at school or on the internet.

Shame about the parking, although it was my own fault for not getting there till late, the pre event morning blast around some of Yorkshires finest roads with a posse of PH members more than made up for it.

Well done to everyone it looked like an amazing turn out of old and new cars of all interest.
Congrats to John and all the staff for gaining this amount of people to a gathering and all the extra funds for the Air Ambulance.
John and The staff will have put in a lot of extra effort to make this happen.

Should do the same as the Sunday Service events.

Stick your name on the list and limit it to 500 cars. This system works well and has done for years.

This.

If the event is outgrowing the location then they should move.

Making it a ticketed event would be a good idea and probably result in more revenue being generated for the Air Ambulance, not sure if this would be possible though as it is technically a public highway?

Would be interesting to see if my ST got allowed in or not with the bouncers on the door method some people in here are recommending boxedin

Ive been to this meet 4/5 times now and I personally think the best thing to do with it would be...to leave it alone.

Its a brilliant meet and regardless of the type of cars there be it exotic supercars/rare metal or modified hatches, we all have one thing in common...we like cars.

Granted the aformentioned corsa and his buddy werent to my taste either, however i took it upon myself and simply chose not to take a picture of it. Perhaps a friendly word in his ear about the 'type' of music being played would have been enough to prevent any offence being caused.

The bouncer on the door suggestion and the seperation of supercars from regular cars is in my opinion very unfair, its the diversity and the fact that there is no seperation that draws me to it every year, i can turn up in my humble seat leon cupra 'which i drive to work, polish to within an inch of its life, and generally treat like its my child,' and then park amongst supercars and cars im never likely to see on the road and feel as though im almost equal.

As for running out of space, all i can do is suggest arriving earlier? Its a limited venue afterall, if you were going to the supermarket on christmas eve you would expect it to be busy and would therfore arrive earlier to guarantee you could park, surely the same thing applies here?

Surely this meet can be one of the few things that is left alone, its fine as it is and as with any thing nowadays...you cant please everyone.

Keep up the good work mark and friends, awesome meet as always and i'll see you in october smile

Some interesting posts on this topic - I think I could understand both sides of the discussion

I've been to most of these over the last few years, but saw the writing on the wall (for myself at least) when I was directly behind the buffoon in the mustang who took to verge surfing last year. Granted you cannot control everyone and you rely on an element of self policing, but as the clown made a ham fisted attempt to drive away in a straight line and succeeded in taking out a tree (& very nearly a police car) it was obvious what would happen next........

Safe to say the A64 was a virtual police state for the next attempt and as I left (early due to the weather), I had the good fortune of seeing the camera vans turning round to catch those on the way home.......at that point I said no more........

It's a great shame 'cos the guys at SCOM obviously go to great lengths and at the end of the day, it is intended to raise more for charity! However, I know what people are saying about the wrong sorts turning up and attracting the wrong sort of attention - frankly I want to be nowhere near that sort of carry on and it nothing to do with brand snobbery. As an example, the last time I went up there I had to suffer the attention of a pair of goons in a mk1 S3 driving right up my backside wanting to race up the A64 whilst the police were enforcing the sort of blockade the Darth Vadar Imperial Fleet would be proud of......

I would say though that the attendance of loads of the boy race crowd is probably swelling numbers and the charity coffers at SCOM! I think I'm right in saying that as a predominantly Porsche dealer, this thread was always run on the Porsche forum historically and yet now it's on the regional pages............this is probably for a reason as the SCOM guys are smart at marketing and probably know their target audience for this event nowadays

Hats off to all of you I say
