I can only say, it is worth making the effort. PHers are mostly a good and welcoming bunch. I have met a lot of very good personal friends in the past eleven years or so on here, been to parties, weddings, member's houses across Europe and all sorts of other memorable events that I wouldn't have missed for the World.

Oh, and we've had a hell of a lot of road trips :-)
Well that all sounds great to me. I'm just a bit wary of trying to interject myself into things, so maybe don't try hard enough!

No doubt we will have another run up that way. The roads are great fun, great landscape too. Need to leave earlier and stop for a big lunch somewhere decent.

Any chance of me tagging along? I don't mind hiding away at the back so I don't cause anyone bother.

I am going to have to have a run out there myself if nobody else is going soon. It's been too long!

Just a bit rubbish that the window for daylight is now so poor!

Just set off from Skipton around 7 am - gives you plenty of time to do the circuit.

I expect so - though not sure when I am going next.

Why not just organise a run? Meet up with a few blokes in cars, head off to Settle, head for Hawes, take Buttertubs pass, head to Tan Hill, then return via Arkengarthdale, Gunnerside, Aysgarth, Buckden and Grassington.

Take a camera. Have fun.

I don't mind waiting for run organised by someone who knows where they are going. I only vaguely know Tan Hill and the surrounding area and due to work don't really know anyone that local who is interested in cars, hence wanting to tag along to meet some real Pistonheads.

I've starting to get interested in another run out. I organised 3 or 4 a few years ago when I had the puma, but stopped doing them as I felt I was pushing the little puma past what I was comfortable doing (usually the least, or at least close to, the least powerful car on a run) trying to keep up with the likes of Al in his testerossa - very very nearly put it in a hedge with a scary "I shoudln't have lifted on that crest" moment once.

Since I've had the big barge (ST220 estate) I don't think it really suits a run. What I would like is a fast spirited drive, driving quickly at say 7/10ths and just pushing on nicely. The thing is I can push myself too fast when I'm on my own, and with a bunch of others I may well end up getting back to pushing too hard again. Might give it a crack though as those roads are very nice!

I know what you mean there, as soon as you're leading there is this subconscious imperative to "put on a good show" which takes a surprising amount of self-awareness to control I've found, or fail to control in some instances!

Anyway, I'm itching for a run out but a combination of busy weekends and constantly stty weather has stifled me so far and probably will continue to do so until after Christmas.

Anyone ever done a group run in the dark?? I could manage an evening. Done plenty of quality drives on my own in the dark, not sure how'd they translate to a group though.

No but if all those Japanese kids can go drifting in the dark then I don't see why we couldn't have a group run laugh

It's crap at this time of the year as by the time it's light it's quite late and the roads fill up at weekends.

Now I live up into the Dales proper it's amazing how quiet the roads are on a week day vs the weekend, even in the middle of the day it's pretty dead.

In summer you'd just get up before work and have hours for hooning on empty roads during the week!

I'm not sure I'd want to do night driving though. Too many randoms walking dogs or cycling in their dark clothes without lights on a night around these parts hehe

I had a good run out on Sunday playing around between Leeds and York on the back roads. Didn't really encounter too much traffic and those I did find I managed to overtake without any arm waving, flashing or blocking.

This is the joy of been on a one or two car run.

The odd car is easy to pass and you just go at your own pace smile
