Well, I was a very, very good boy in 2014, so Santa brought me this:

Last weekend was my first real chance to give it a good polish, and then I nipped up to Rombald's Moor for the photos.
Got mine for my birthday in January (well, birthday present to myself anyway)......

Sorry to see that and hope nobody was injured. What happened?

No body injured and only myself involved thankfully

I came round a corner and hit some standing water, lost control and hit a tree

Quite lucky really as i had brake discs, a new exhaust and a strut brace unsecured in the boot with rear seats down, glad they didnt fly forward and clock the back of my head!

Mainly this, seeing as my wife claimed our new Golf R as her own!

I drove this for the first time this year yesterday - I've had the car a while now (7 or 8 years now I think) & in that time have fitted an 1800 Zetec instead of the original 1600 CVH (running on a single Weber DGV carb + Megajolt ignition), uprated the suspension & brakes, fitted a roll bar & MX5 seats. It's also had new sills fitted along with various other bits of welding. It's a 20ft car in that it looks good from 20ft away but the closer you get the shabbier it becomes - must admit that I quite like that aspect of it & have no plans to do anything about it really. So it's not exactly beautiful & not particularly fast but it handles brilliantly & I love the ruddy thing. I keep toying with the idea of bike carbs or somesuch to give it a bit more oomph but I'm not a speed merchant so I'm pretty happy just bimbling along. I had the car rolling roaded a couple of years ago &, after a bit of tinkering (MJ map modified & jets in the carb changed), it ended up with 110 bhp at the flywheel which equates to 90(ish)bhp at the wheels :-)

Sorry - yes it's a Reliant Scimitar SS1 from 1985. They came with various engines - 1300 & 1600 CVH (Ford), the fastest - the 1800ti - used the 1800 turbocharged engine from the Nissan Silvia turbo which made it a very quick car. All 1800ti's have a galvanised chassis which make them a long lasting car. If you can get past the looks then they're a great car, fast enough as standard (especially the 1800ti) & all handle excellently with super quick steering. Pick of the bunch would be an 1800ti & good ones can be had for £3000 (often considerably less) which makes them a performance bargain; not that many were made though so they're quite rare. Look out for rust in the chassis (which can be hard to see/repair due to the bodywork), dodgy electrics & tired interiors. External panels are plastic or glass fibre so last well unless the car's been in an accident & they've been poorly repaired. Dire panel fit came as standard from the factory!

Later models - the SST & Sabre - were restyled & look much better, the Sabre used the K series engine (I think) & cost a fair bit more than the SS1 & come up for sale even less often.

Hope that helps - I'm using it again today (Wednesday) smile

That sounds like an excellent suggestion. Maybe a tunnel run of some description?
Oh and Gib I spend more time driving it than I do taking pictures of it!
