More fun!
Download the spreadsheet at the bottom of the page.

See how long they spend at the high revenue locations and how often, compared to community concern locations.

Another heroic effort by the police service, pouring resources into stopping accidents that don't exist.

Give them more funding or medals or something.
I'd love to agree with you and as much as I hate the bloody vans, there's a stupid number of crashes on what is generally a well conditioned straight piece of road! A lot of bloody numpty drivers about obviously.

Just this morning between Hopgrove & Grimston West bound there's some new tyre marks and vegetation ploughed where someones gone off the carriageway. It's straight FFS and possibly happened overnight when there'll be little traffic. So either someone who was pissed or someone who just shouldn't be allowed to drive!!

Well- some places are just cash cows to milk drivers- old A1 near Boroughbridge anybody? But other places - I fully support them . Morton on Swale - 30 limit special and primary schools (former on main road) and most of the time I seem to be the only one who drops to the limit. And if some of our biking friends realised just how many people they ps off / spoil their day/petrify by pretending they are TT heroes on the B1257 I'd be just delighted.

If these things continue to happen, the camera vans are not doing what they're claimed to be doing.

Or are these vehicles stuffing it off after seeing a camera van and panic braking?

Don't forget the TV footage of an East Anglia Camera van when two cars stuffed it off in such circumstances. Still on youtube last time I looked.

They are on the a64 pretty much every day between Eden camp and the m1 a1m

I've seen 3 sneaky positions this week

Coming over cawood towards Sherburn there was one hiding in the long grass but it had yellow flashing lights (looked like a roadworks vehicle)

On the bridges which I think is sneaky

And today just after Malton as you get on the first dual carriageway heading back towards York you go down the hill and the minute you're at the bottom there was a speed camera van parked well over to the side in the grass next to the bushes

I just stick it on cruise at 60mph on the a64 then 70 after the main roundabout at york

There was a call recently to have sections of the A64 lowered to 50mph yikes apparently many people cannot drive around the slightly curvy section between York and Tadcaster without crashing, even when they are the only car on the road. These people shouldn't be allowed on the public roads and as for cutting that section down to 50, well my piss is boiling just at the thought of it.

Sadly this day in age we seem to legislate for the cretins!

Never you mind

It was councillor Ricahrd Musgrave that wanted that. Its not due to the curve its because people can't come out of bilboroguh top services at speed as they bumble along it at 30/40mph, if that. The amount of times I've seen people almost stuff it into the back of the car in front on that slip road has got to be in triple figures by now. Almost done it myself while looking into the mirror to check for a gap only for the car in front to bottle it and slam on.

It's because they're all too busy stuffing their fat faces with MaccyD's.

A married couple near us both got caught @35mph on Naburn Lane (back of the Designer Outlet) within 10 minutes of each other, attended the same speed awareness course - others there were caught in the same way so watch out.

That list of possible locations is ridiculous and completely against the spirit of advertising where they are going to be. They only have 3 vans and I think I counted 92 locations when I looked last week, on just about every stretch of A road and good B road in the county. It basically says 'we could be anywhere'.

2 weeks ago they were on the B6479 near Ribblehead (Horton road) catching bikers on a straight towards the junction. Fortunately I was going in the opposite direction so just exiting the bends when I clocked them. To be fair, there were a LOT a walkers on the road further down where the 3 Peaks trail crosses the roads but you wouldn't know that at the point of the van location.

Does anyone know what time of day they set up/go home??

Just checked this - caught one speeder at 4 locations around Ribblehead in 4 hours on that Saturday morning! Some of the other numbers are scary though, especially on the A64. Think I'm going to download this data and do some analysis!

Unless I'm reading it wrong they don't seem to be at locations very long. 1 hour seems to be the max and a lot of them are only for 10-20 mins. confused Surely by the time you get the equipment set up and packed away again it's not even worth the effort?

It's all bullst.

Community concern on a straight dual carriageway with no side turnings, good visibility and the only community alongside being rabbits.

I think I'd actually have a mite more respect for the speed camera team if they actually put their hands up and said "the only reason we spend all our time on the Malton bypass or the bottom of Whitwell is it is the only time people get chance on the A64 to go quickly and we make pots of cash off it".

It's a real shame as proper policemen, ones who actually help reduce crime, catch criminals and help people get less respect from the public as the face of the police people see most often is the sneaky tts hiding their vans and trying to extract as much as possible from motorists. Real bobbies do a difficult job at the best of times and don't need greedy grubby money grabbing policies like this making their job any more difficult.

Also road casualties have gone up on the region's roads since the introduction of the cameras a few years back. If anyone had the time or inclination a FOI request on the correlation of real roads policing officers on the roads since the introduction of cameras by NYP would make interesting reading I bet.

30 mins seems to be the norm, with some double-stint hour sessions. BUT that's camera on-off times so excludes setting up/having a coffee etc.

By the way, a quick pivot of the 2015 data sheet tells mr that across North Yorks they catch one every 6 minutes....

Sneaky little feckers also have unmarked vehicles floating about... one being a 54 vauxhall Corsa 5 door knocking around Scarborough. Oddly, today on way home from York A64 to Scarborough I overtook a Peugeot 307 estate thingy, being driven by someone in a Hi-viz jacket. He was cruising at about 68MPH. Then when the dual bits ended, he proceeded to overtake everybody who had just passed him on the duals at a ridiculous speed until traffic slowed him down !!!
Presume it wasn't plod, but he did have some devices stuck to his windscreen.....
