I've never used a mobile tyre fitter, but in the near future I will need some tyres doing and I reckon this will be a more convenient option.

Taking the skill and work ethic of the technician out of the equation, is the equipment in a mobile rig going to be able to do as good a job as the equipment in a workshop based tyre fitter? I genuinely don't know if the portable equipment in a van will be able to balance a wheel as well as something anchored to a concrete slab, for instance.

Have used mobile tyre fitters a few times, most recent was last week. Absolutely fine, in fact the machines in the van seem to be in better condition than the ones I often see in fixed tyre places.

Before committing to mobile, try asda tyres as you can pick where & when they are done & the prices are very hard to beat.

Mobile fitting doesn’t itself compromise the quality of the work.

I’d recommend using a mobile tyre fitter as the vans and the gear in them are usually reasonably new, the fitter has to be capable to independently deal with the job rota, find your house, deal with the customer, etc. so I think you - how should I put it - generally get a more competent individual replacing your tyres.

I’ve used a number of companies over the years, much more convenient apart from when the Halfords Tyres fitter didn’t turn up on the last job as there was an online order glitch which didn’t generate an order number and I didn’t notice it until the phone system asked me for the order number, yet they still took my money…

The mobile fitter will probably be the only one who uses that set of equipment and, as they will be the people trusted to work on their own, more likely to take care of it.

If you use a mobile service , I would avoid Tyres on The Drive. When I booked them they didn't turn up. No warning, no apology.

When I phoned I was on hold for 40 mins to their contact centre, only to be told they couldn't contact the fitter and had no idea where he was. Terrible service.

I’ve used mobile fitters many times. Mostly fine, only one time I had a bit of a chancer fit balance the tyres incorrectly on my car. That was with Halfords, but I have to say when I rang up to complain they were spot on. Sent another guy round 24 hours later and fixed it Foc.

Thanks all, sounds like it's worth doing then. Will give it a go.

Fwiw every racing slick on the grid in Donningon this weekend would have been fitted by a mobile fitter smile

Think he might have fitted more wets… But in respect of the OP it’s not exactly the same, is it…

why not?
It's just a machine in a van.
Pretty much th same machine as in a kwik fit, but likely a bit more personl service and a bit less "scare you into something you don't neex"...

I use a mobile guy and he’s the only person I trust with my wheels. Knows where to jack the car up too without damaging it.

It’s not the machines that make the difference.

Ive used mobile guys on 2 occasions now and i probably wont go back to a depot, no more waiting around etc.
Ok you pay a bit more but you can sit comfortably in your home writing nonsense on here while its done.
Asda tyres were good as was an independent company local to me., Asda used smart tyres from memory who i believe you can go direct to as well.
