Well, the day is almost upon us. A route is hashed and hotels booked for each night. Plan is:

Cherbourg - Tours - Toulouse - Andorra - Barcelona - Valencia - Almeria - Gibraltar with the return journey being :

Caceres - Eucisia (Portugal) - Leon - Bilbao - Bordeaux - Mehun sur Yevre - Alencon - Cherbourg.

With a night at my daughters in Dorset at the start and finish.

I'll try to post pics along the route, but the mileage varies between 290 for the longest day and 112 for the shortest, so we'll just have to see what happens!

Plan for a late start after your Bordeaux overnight. Cracking night out. Oh, and the coast road into Barcelona is epic bar the cyclists. I suspect this would involve a detour from Andorra.

Sounds most excellent!

I'm not too familiar with anything south of, well, France really, but on your way you could take a detour to cruise down the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans about 300km/h slower than the race cars do, and, depending on what your route looks like, Perigeuex is lovely.

Bonus points if you can find a freshly-ploughed field to drive across while not breaking any eggs.

Bon voyage!

OP. Just go for it! It'll be amazing in the 2CV. I made the journey to the S of France in a green and white Dolly in the summer of 1986 and it was one of my most enjoyable journeys ever. Overnight we managed to crack Calais to Cavaliere beach on the Cote D'Azur. The car just kept going. Enjoy the trip. The French love a Dolly!

The added bonuses (for you, not the Lotus) is that there is next to no chance of getting a speeding fine in France (or anywhere else to be honest) and by removing the seats you will have useful chairs when you want to stop for a picnic!

Glad the enthusiasm is back because you are (virtually) taking along a good portion of PHers who would love to do this trip.
Many of us would swap places with you. Enjoy yourself.

On the return leg I would suggest going from gib to Ronda, Olvera and overnighting in Seville. Malaga to Olvera has some great roads, both are great scenic stops, and Seville has some wonderful f&b options

Enjoy the trip!

That’s the first 200 miles done. We have arrived in Dorset for a night of dog sitting. I’ll give the 2CV a quick once over tomorrow, but all was well today…

Sounds like a nice relaxed driving/touring holiday TBH, you might find Gib a bit underwhelming as a destination in some respects but there's lots of interesting historical bits to look at away from the urban sprawl. In the 90s my old man and I went to Germany in his 2CV on a similar jaunt, although the primary objective was visiting friends of his.
