What does everybody think to their local bread.
I recently had a lovely loaf from Sainsburys in Sheringham and it made me realise the choice and quality beats the french bread hands down IMO. Our local boulangerie does baguettes and pain to break your teeth on and a couple of pain de campagne which are ok. Supermarket bread is generally poor and sandwich loaves are awful.
I heard a rumour that Warburtons are starting to sell in France and I for one look forward to a nice sandwich at work again if this happens.
PS I do know a great boulanderie but it is 3 hours away so only good for when visiting.

Our Boulangerie changed hands last year and is generally worse. Fortunately his baguette and Festive are fine.
For speciality breads we go to Saumur where the choice in only limited by your imagination.
If you like a sandwich, have you tried Harry’s 7-cereals.
Warburtons will not stand a chance against French bread except perhaps their crumpets, but only if France gets a liking for them with salted butter.
Just off to buy my baguette

I love my local baguettes, the crustier the better! I can imagine if you prefer English bread you will have a problem getting what you want in Lot! Have you considered using a bread machine to make what you like?

Bonne fete indeed and after the weather we’ve had a welcome return to sun and plus 20 degrees.
Celebrated today with an ok Baguette but in the morning its back to work with Carrefour’s own pain de mie complet made bearable with roast pork from today’s dinner.
Dont get me wrong given the right circumstances I like a nice crunchy baguette, its just a lack of choice I find frustrating.

Just had a mixed (bread day) today, we were in the local forest this morning picking Lilly of the valley. After we ate crusty yesterdays bread, Midday was a meal with 30+ folks with fresh bread from the van ? I cant see the problem ? When in France i enjoy the bread and the same in the UK and Ireland.

There is no chance of eating yesterdays baguette here,it won't even last until late afternoon if it's bought in the morning.

Sprinkle with a little water and bung it in the oven for 5 minutes, and hey presto, nice soft loaf inside, albeit a bit crustier outside!

Bread machine + Francine Multicereale (2.5 kgs for 4€ from most supermarkets) = five damned fine loaves which will last for days for 1€ including yeast and which everyone - including the French - loves the taste of. I will only buy baguettes from one shop, and they are multigrain too and last several days if necessary. Mind you, I reckon I've not bought a handful of baguettes in the last three years.

we're not big bread eaters, slows your digestive system down big time, but when we do get a goodun, its lovely, wont last to next day though. If we could find the turkish bread we once had when in Oz, that was & healthy (cant remember why)
