Hi All,

Hope you're all well smile

Just looking at buying a right hand drive but french registered car and taking it back to the UK. Providing I've owned it for 6 months will I still get stitched for VAT/Duties when bringing it back to the UK? It was exported to here from the UK years before Brexit and is registered on French plates etc with a valid Carte Gris and CT.

I live in the UK normally...just staying in France at my sister's house and happened upon this one. I can buy it, and use it in France for six months, and then drive it back.

Thanks,
J.

Hi Smiffy...happy to be corrected...but I've been told from people here that I can buy it in my name provided I have an address to use in France for the registration...and that the address doesn't have to be my house. It was mentioned that it may not be able to be done online, and I may have to use a company that can do it for me. Even if that doesn't end up being the case, I can buy it in my sister's name. In any case, people who don't live in France can buy cars here and then take them home. I know people who have done it.

Thanks,
J.

How does the owner of the car he sold to someone that 'don't live in France'deal with his part of the ANTS sale declaration then?
And if the person that buys it,by some chance gets possession of the vehicle. How then does he register it in the uk?

For you to buy it for French registration, you still need either a justicatif de domicile for your own property here in France, OR an attestation de domicile from your sister confirming that you live with her for one of the companied to register it in your name, not impossible but you're asking your sister to make a sworn statement that the French take REALLY seriously and if caught out in the lie, it could have a negative impact on her. You can get the seller to sell it to you for direct export, however you will pay import tax etc when you import it into the UK.

Hi Rush,

Thanks mate. Ok, I see what you mean. I don't want anyone lying. Sounds like sale for export is the way then.

Hi Magoo ... well this is what I was asking, yes. Sounds like it's not possible in the the way I was suggesting. As I say I was told that it can be done, but not on the online ANTS system. The guy told me that I can use an agent to do the sale and transfer into my name using my sister's address. But as always, the real answer is on PH! smile

Cheers mate,

J.
