How are you supposed to get the car off the road or back home if the ban is instant? Surely there’s a time before your banned over there, if your the only driver and on holiday surely they couldn’t make you stranded with no way to get home.
They can and they will. Why would they give a stuff about you being stranded?
Fair enough and I suppose true enough, it’s your own doing I suppose.
I just thought they’d have some leeway or something.
Good to know anyway.

I have been pulled in my UK plated car for going between 40-50kmh over the speed limit on the motorway. I paid the fine and they have taken my license and have said I will be banned from driving in France for around 3-4 months. The paperwork they have given me doesn’t say anything about a driving ban. Is this ban enforceable and what would the punishment be if I was to be stopped again whilst serving a ban?
Yes it's enforceable. The case will go to court (you shouldn't need to attend) and the judge will decide on the length of ban.

You'll then get a letter to your UK address (along with your license) telling you how long you're banned for.

If you'd have been caught at more than 50 over the limit they could have taken your car off you as well.
Thanks

What happened after they took your licence ? Did they let you drive away ? Did someone else drive ?
They let someone else drive the car away.

My assumption would be banned until you hear otherwise and/or get your licence back.

The fine you paid by the way isn't actually a fine.

It's a deposit against the eventual fine you will receive when the case goes to court.

Expect a further bill.........
Not this.

.. They have confiscated your licence. You are banned from now until the court decides your ban is up
I can understand that they can insta-ban you (their country their laws etc) but by what legal authority can they confiscate a UK driving licence?

It's like some Johnny Foreigner taking your passport.

They can.

If you go to Spain and steal a car, they'll arrest you and potentially put you in jail. You don't get carte blanche because you're only on your holidays.

They can only take your car if its registered to you, a pcp, loan car or a car registered to you wife wink they cannot, if you dont have another driver, cause an electrical problem and call your recovery service to repatriate your car as you are departing for uk tomorrow.

Yes, they are very serious about speeding now, do not drive without your licence.

The test you have to take to get your french license back is very funny, part of it is an arcade game hehe the doctor run around tests are somewhat less fun smile

Doesnt apply to uk holders obviously

You might have a point there Doofus......

I'd got an excess of 50kph in my head, at which point the fine is up to 1500€ set by a court, that's the deposit scenario

Checked to confirm that the OP actually posted 40 to 50 so most likely the set 135€ fine, my bad......
