I have always quite fancied a "Resto Mod" Scimitar, keep the original lines but with a free revving high bhp V8 and sorted handling, would make a great weekend toy.
They handle well anyway, the suspension is great and the engine sits well back. There's a whole front tyre ahead of the engine, under that bonnet.

Was it a chassis cross member or the steering rack that got in the way of the Rover engine in the GTC, can't remember. Having modded the bulkhead and footwells a little to give more room, manufactured engine mounts etc he went back to the V6 in the end. Car has well over 200k on it.

Modded V6? what's needed to get say 200bhp and still keep decent torque.

I'm really struggling to find a decent 4 seater drop top with a little bit of charisma. Was looking at SL500's but the rear seat isn't.
Scimitar GTC doesn't have 3 point lap and diags in the rear of course and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to fix them.

A Triumph Stag would appear to fit your requirements very nicely wink

This day and age, 200hp is easy for the Essex with more modern tuning compared to back in the day, so heads, cam, induction, etc.etc. as per usual.

There are a few specialists around, such as Burtons and I've heard good things about Ric Wood Motorsport as an Essex V6 engine specialist.

Back in the early 80's, a mate was running a Swaymar Engineering V6 in his RS3100 Capri, which was running about 210-220hp with a Holley 4 barrel etc., and that was about max back then for a road engine. 200hp is now a mild spec for a Essex V6 these days.

Scimitars do represent good value for money considering its rival classics (that are often known to be rust buckets) which are often fetching almost twice the money. Even MG B roadsters you couldn't buy for the money that a decent GTE often sell for. For the average person who hasnt got deep pockets, a managing directors job, on an average income or with a measly low pension, the chance of owning the classic they once dreamed of becomes more and more of a dream due to the insanely high prices.

Looking at this list of classics dosent exactly instill one with much hope:

I'd be lucky to find someone I know who had a spare 10 grand for a Capri. Why are Capri's fetching money like that yet the lovely Essex V6 engined Scimitar GTE can barely reach the 5 grand mark?. I suppose a certain 1970s TV series has had a big role to play in the Capri's appeal, with the whole nostalgia feel it has with a certain generation who grew up watching Bodie and Doyle. IMO the Scimitar is far better than the overrated Capri.

There used to be a GAA engined Hillclimb Scimitar ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGAd52NCyFA ... not sure if it still exists with the engine in place ...
It used to run in the British championship and was rapid .
