Theres been a few deals on UHD film purchases on Amazon - 3.99 to own - i've picked up Blade Runner Ultimate Cut and a few other scifi (think T2 remastered is also one) - its under a "prime film deals" section via the TV app
Well, you say "own" but does anyone really ever own anything digital that has DRM and is linked to a platform, and which could be unilaterally taken away from you at any time? But, that aside, good to know!
edit: I'm taking delivery of a 4K OLED telly shortly, which is going to bump me up from a 720p plasma and an old 1st gen Amazon Fire TV, to being 4K-capable so I will definitely go have a look at these. Thanks for the tip-off!

Robodoc - documentary of one of my favourite movies, Robocop.
Really enjoying this. Fascinating insight to the movie and a fair bit of ad libbing by some actors.
Oooo I hadn't realised this was on Prime, I'll check it out. Seen some clips of it and it looks very well done. Really enjoying this. Fascinating insight to the movie and a fair bit of ad libbing by some actors.
Peter Weller - would love a beer with him.
Nancy Allen looking great still.

It's an excellent film and the documentary talks a lot around boundaries they pushed and what was happening in the US socially in it.
Yes, there is a lot of social commentary and satire in the film. There's also the exploration of what it means to be human. I remember reading a multi-page article in New Scientist just after the film was released (back in the day when New Scientist was actually a respected scientific journal) where it talked about how Robocop was an allegory for losing one's identity to technology, and the fight to regain your humanity. Something that is possibly even more relevant today in an always-on internet world, than back then. It's also an interesting counterpoint to Motoko Kusanagi's constant worry in Ghost in the Shell (manga and anime versions) about whether she is still human.
I know some will pooh-pooh this, but whatever.

Paul Verhoven is an excellent director of this genre of films. Starship Troopers was another great movie of its time Peter Weller - would love a beer with him.

How the hell does someone sit down and watch 8hrs of tv in one day. Baffling.
Meh, it's something you enjoy so what's the issue? People run marathons or do iron-man triathlons for fun - each to their ownMy question was how people physically do it, I can barely get through a 3hr movie without getting up and walking around a bit.

Sitting on your arse for 8hrs. Yep, totally the same as running a marathon

Where did they say they didn't have short breaks between episodes? My question was how people physically do it, I can barely get through a 3hr movie without getting up and walking around a bit.
It's you who has made assumptions and passed judgement here. They did nothing more than admit that they had a relaxing day in front of the telly
Also, as a software engineer (according to your profile), you should be used to sitting on your arse in front of a screen for hours.

It does make me laugh that Paul Verhoeven made Robocop and people didn't get the satire on American consumerism, corruption, miss information and militarisation so he said "hold my beer" and slapped us in the face with Starship Troopers 10 years later. And people STILL didn't get it

That is quite a jump!A number of Netflix shows look great with an OLED in 4K. The Crown looks stunning.

I've been holding off for years because I love my plasma and I've been waiting for it to die. But I've come to the conclusion that I may die before it does. I should add that I do have a proper AV amp with 5.1 speaker setup, so I'm not entirely stuck in the past.

probably want to upgrade that 56k dial up modem while you're at it
Cheeky! edit: I think my internet connection might actually be fast enough.

tbh - i've had issues with Prime in the past not being up to 4k / UHD quality despite them saying it is, i thought it was my broadband, but i used a LAN cable to the tv from the router, and speed tested it - and it was fine - so i assume its Primes end - the app is native to the 4k tv.

It varies between the streaming service and by Film/TV show so agreed that not all UHD content is the same. When you do find some good content it really does make you realise what you have been missing. when i tried on apple TV, its was stunning - so defo not my broadband
