A new film here called Headhunters. Norwegian, based on a Jo Nesbo story, subtitled and simply amazing...a brilliant caper movie, violent. very ,very funny and utterly compelling. Opened today in Phaildelphia. Best film by far that I have seen this year. Somewhere between Guy Ritchie and the Coen brothers..... I think it will be a cult hit. Hollywood ( probably inferior) version now being made. Great stuff ,this!! Trailer here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1614989/

Headhunters... I went to the cinema at 11pm last week on my own. Wifey had early night and I was bored! Got there and asked that was on in the comfy screen with the big seats, and it was this. Knew nothing about it but it was great!
Also, very spooky as thr only person in the whole room watching a thriller!

Chronicle - I thought it was pretty damn good, to be honest. Not your usual superpowers fare.

Win win - American indie 'comedy' with Paul Giamatti about a struggling small town lawyer becoming guardian for a wealthy old man and his dysfunctional family. I felt like I'd seen this film a dozen times already. Not exactly charmless but nothing to recommend it either. 4/10

Absolutely excellent black comedy. Great innit? Brendan Gleeson = watch. Another vote for this one Just watched it, thanks! Really liked it, right up my street. I struggled understanding it sometimes with the irish accent but I suppose thats rich coming from a Scot.

I remember one of the first times I noticed him in a film, 28 Days later, when he appears at the top of the stairs in riot gear! Brilliant scene.

Old school- 1 of 3 films from a Will Ferrell boxset for £5 on amazon. Really was not expecting much but found it to be very funny, would rate it about the same as the hangover and perfect for a lads night in with beer or a quiet night in with the mrs. Although it will never be in the top 5 funniest films of all time its still worth buying, would happily watch it again. 7.5/10
Love the beast - This is a film about actor Eric Bana and his love for his Ford GT Falcon he has had since he was 15, over time him and his mates restore it from a piece of sh*t rust bucket into a nice example that they enter into a 5 day rally in Austrailia and finish 3rd, 11 years later with hollywood actor money Eric hands the car over for a no expense spared 600bhp extreme restoration/race project to enter it in the rally one last time. For pure racing/fast in car footage etc the film is lacking that, even with 600bhp the car doesnt appear that fast and it never has any edge of your seat action. However the film is about the passion for cars and it covers that very well. if you loved the worlds fastest indian you will probably love this. 7.5/10

It's one I would go back to, definitely!

From my holiday villa in vietnam in the last few days:
The Grey - Liam Neeson v wolves, Neeson plays that guy from Taken again, crap CGI for the wolves, disappointing 4/10
X Men first class - more an explanation than a film, though well done, good for fans of the comics I guess which I am not so 5/10
MI3 ghost protocol - best of the 3 and very good, gadgets, excitement, cars etc 8/10
Girl with dragon tattoo - the remake, very good actually, matches the original without subtitles, and it's a great if over-familiar story 8/10
A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy - above average 30 something adult romcom, some amusing bits 7/10
Tucker and Dale vs evil - an unusual and original twist on the deliverance/evil dead theme, clever but never as funny as I wanted it to be. 7/10
War Horse - overblown schmaltzy stuff as is sometimes the case with spielberg 6/10

Went to the cinema yesterday for the first time in more than a year to see
The Hunger Games
In certain ways it has a bit of a 'running man' feel about it, but don't let that dissuade you!
I enjoyed the movie, albeit it with a little suspension of disbelief, the lead actress (Jennifer Lawrence) was good, Donald Sutherland gave a great performance and the ending, though a little twee actually fitted with the general feel of the film.
It's rated a 15 I think, probably for one scene which is surprisingly bloody, yet well shot.
In general, a recommendation and a solid 7/10 from me.
