Daenerys is stunning but bearing in mind in the first episode she is examined and touched up by her brother then married off and the marriage consummated against her will I suspect casting a 13 year old girl may have raised a few issues. Casting a adult doesnt take anything away from the story. Looking forward to next one

Haha yeah i do agree with that element of it. Not that forced consumation is ever good or a positive thing to portray a 13 year old may have had the censors going mental.

Good grief, that was by the numbers. Fun to watch, but utterly predictable. I've not read the books so feel free to shoot holes in this, but here's my summation :
Slightly pressed-upon king requests aid from out-to-grass relative with a large family.
Meanwhile, a bitter, manipulative bloke farms off his sister to token barbarian to forge some unholy alliance to take back said king's lands. See end of series one where the two arcs meet.
Meanwhile, meanwhile, said king's wife is shagging someone else and is conveniently discovered by a son of previously loyal subject, thus leading to grievous harm upon said boy, probably saved by Lassie-esque wolf alerting soldiers, leading to a bloody rift between king and previously loyal general/cousin/whatever Sean Bean is to the king.
It's Dallas with swords. With a dwarf for comedy value.
Fun to watch, but not exactly highbrow

I think you are missing the point a hell of a lot with that summary.
Not a relative, a friend but thats the smallest mistake you have made.
Did you not work out who the queen was getting down with? Thats a bit of an eye opener if you havent.
You seem to have take the series as a simple knock together american drama when its an adaptation of an extremely complex and well written book. Watch it again or wait for a few more episodes to be played and watch it with you eyes open. Dont try and predict the story because you will fail.

I think the TV series will reward someone who has rad the books more but that it also stands as a very good example of a bloody good story.
If they were to attempt to get the political sublties accross on the TV though the series would be about 50 episodes long and a bit dry for people who only want slaughter-sword, cock to quim action.

Yeah thats what I heard. 10 per series. Gonna be a squeeze!
Also the draft of his new book is complete......heres hoping it gets done. I stopped reading just before a feast of crows so it gives me 2 more to read in one sitting.

yeah sorry Graham but you are WAY off with suggesting this is remotely predictable. maybe it will end up more so in the series to make it simpler to understand, but the story/books is fantastic.
Being enormously awesome I've managed to watch the first one and thought it was really really good. made the wights pretty damn scary (more so than the books for me), and the casting was just ace.
really hope its popular enough to get carried on....and I can swap my Virgin to Sky quickly enough!

The Wire would have never made it past series one if it wasn't on HBO, they stuck with it even with small figures and it turned into a work that is routinely classed as one of the best from recent years. Good old HBO!!

Fair enough, I take it back - I've not read the books, after all, so I was going purely on first impressions from a "newbie". I certainly agree it looks the business, though. I might also have not been completely sober

Missed the 1st episode but caught up on Anytime today - what a great looking programme. First one was a bit character introducing but plenty going on and fabulous sceneray and sound. I'm in for the duration I think (never read the books)

Just to clarify...so was the guy sleeping with the queen her actual brother?
I suspect the child lives and plays a big part along with his brothers and mostly his sister of similar age (the one who was better at archery).
..will take me a while to remember the character names!
