I've now got to the stage where, if I let my nails grow even the slightest amount, I can't type...
Same here. Incredibly it's actually getting a chore to keep them filed short! I don't want to use clippers, but the cheap emery boards are a bit crap, I'm thinking about getting one of the glass nail files which apparently never wear out.LosingGrip said:
I failed today (
Managed two weeks. Last couple of days I've noticed that I've been playing with them a lot. Was almost annoying me being that long.
Woke up today and noticed my finger was bleeding. Didn't even notice i did it!
I'm well pissed off.

It was never going to be easy.
Don't weaken, Try again.....
Anyone thinking about it, buy a nail file - I was cutting mine down which was ok but filing off the corners is better; less fiddling, it means they can grow out a bit more and it is easier to take off smaller amounts etc.
Doing pretty well now! I find my nails are not in my mouth very often now, think this had allowed my nails to get a bit stronger and the cuticles are tidier. I used to bite the skin too, I no longer seem to do that.
Thread has definitely helped me, so thanks to the OP.

I had a weird dream last night that I had accidentally bitten them all short again in my sleep. Boy was I confused when I woke up!
I had this dream about 2 weeks a go. I was quite disappointed/frustrated about it in my dream!
I don’t know how long it’s been for me now, maybe 3 months? Still think the nail file was a smart move.
One of my kids developed a habit of biting their nails, I don't know what started it. However, after trying various incentives to get them to stop (none of which were effective), I finally cracked it. Every morning after breakfast, I would make them insert their fingers in a bucket of dogst. We didn't own a dog but there was loads in the field I used to take them to to play football etc, so I got them to collect it there (they were allowed to wear gloves for that, before someone accuses me of being a monster)

Please spare a thought for us at Christmas - finding the end of the sellotape is a bugger. Been trying to wrap presents for 3 hours.
I've had full nails this year and I *still* had to use the scissor blade to find the end! Sadly I haven't found many actual practical uses for them really, and certainly nothing that grabbing my keys didn't used to solve. The *definite* benefit is not being self-conscious about having my hands open in public situations (eg. at a pub/bar table holding a drink), and not having them curled inwards as I often did.
Update: the nail beds are very slowly improving, but at this rate I think it will take years to look "normal" though:

== Taking the back off a battery compartment (e.g. remote control or mobile) without using a knife.
== Peeling the sticky label bit off a re-sealable packet of sweets.
== Picking paint spots off a bath
== Opening the smallest blade on a multi-function penknife
