1-2

sendings off

Plenty of shot animal impressions.
Messi to be kicked like an unloved dog for 90 mins.
Cards, lots of cards.
< 22 players on the pitch @ 90 mins.
Maureen to moan, a lot.
Madrid to play a defensive game, until they go behind.
Enough stuff chucked on the pitch to open a Euro shop.
Messi to outshine Narcissus.

What? Oh. The score - Barca by a couple.
very close,dick.

I am very confused.

I never realised how crap and boring Real Madrid were. I know I said they'd win 5-0, but I was only repeating things I'd heard other people say, you know, Barcelona-hating, heterosexual Man Utd, Cristiano Ronaldo fans who post under youtube videos of black and white adverts for Armani.

Having now watched 45 minutes of an El Clasico for the first time in my sorry life, I realise that should Real beat Barcelona, they will only have done so by playing in such a way that involves excessive defending, fouling and being physically quicker - not with more skill or guile. I have also learned that much of the criticism against Barcelona, from people like me, comes from other supporters of English football teams, who listen to 'journalists' on Sky's Sunday Supplement, journalists who tell themselves the Premiership is the 'best league in the world' - because our players like Young and Rooney don't dive like Busquets - people, who listen to journalists, who like me, are thick, clueless and jealous.
You do realise that Madrid beat Barcelona the only way anyone can beat Barcelona?

You literally can't play another way against them otherwise you'll get slaughtered. Chelsea played the same way last week and will have to again in the second leg. Inter beat them in 2009/10 by doing the exact same thing, United beat them in 2007/08 that way as well.

They're a ridiculous team who play a ridiculously hard game of football and unfortunately it means that every game they play in will be a sea of diving, cynical fouls, monotonous possession and not a lot of excitement. I used to love watching Barca under Rijkaard when they had the likes of Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Deco and so on. They were magnificent to watch but also fallable and could be gotten at if you played normal football.

Since they got Guardiola in they've basically sucked all the fun and life out of every game they play. An amazing team, absolutely (well, probably) the best team to ever play the game but my god their games are horrible to watch unless you're a Barca fan.

I used to love watching real when they had the likes of zidane, figo, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Beckham etc. Was brilliant to see a "huge" team play.

Well, that result pretty much seals the La Liga title for Madrid. It was an interesting decision by Pep to leave both Fabregas and Alexis on the bench. He must have had an eye on the Chelsea match Tuesday.

They arguably play the most attractive football in the world. How is that horrible to watch? Barcelona are only horrible to watch if you either hate them or support the team they are playing.

agree. i wanted chelsea to win the other day but it did amaze me just how good they are at keeping the ball and passing it around....how they do that to some of the worlds best teams is just remarkable.

I don't hate them but is boring to watch because they suck the life out of the opposition and since Pep took over have they ever been involved in a competitive game?
They are sooooooo good that 90% of a match is a snoozefest passing side to side, getting to the opposing byline and then going all they way back to their own half.
The other 10% of the match when they cut the opposition open is the best football you will ever see.

Exactly this.

If they always went for the jugular then they'd be incredible but they don't. The games aren't contests so it's just a glorified training session to Barca and they don't usually try apart from maybe 5-10 minutes in a game.

I can see where you are coming from. They are not involved in many competitive games. I guess people just see different things when watching football. Personally, I quite enjoy watching good passing and movement. Messi can be quite entertaining too.

Bloody hell I couldn't disagree more!! If it wasn't for being able to watch Barca each week (after the mighty Tangerines!) then there would be very little worth watching football wise.

They are near-perfect in the way they craft chances and score goals and with their hare-brained defending there is usually a chance or two for the opposition.

I did find the Milan, Chelsea and now Madrid games interesting because those teams managed to stifle the attacks almost entirely and naturally its great to see other teams figure out a defuse switch. However I wouldn't want Barca to ever change their style (which was entirely similar under Rijkaard before Guardiola BTW!) and hope they continue to be as good as they are for as long as I'm around anyway!

It was different under Rijkaard in that they were always looking for a way through and would take a risk or two, they didn't go side to side for half an hour.
I know I sound like a hater but I really think they are fantastic bit there are lots more entertaining teams to watch. Case in point the Everton-United game today, end to end quality football, much more exciting.

They were by far the best team to watch under Rijkaard.

Messi is probably better than Ronaldinho but nowhere near as entertaining, unpredictable or fun. Barca were all or nothing back then and because they were so good and had so many great, entertaining players they were usually in the 'all' camp.

There was always a chance the opposition would beat them though, nowadays they're practically infallible. That's why it's so good that they've lost two in a week, basically unheard of under Guardiola.

Apparently Ronaldo is the first player to score against every team in La Liga in one season IIRC from what somebody told me yesterday.

Looking forward to the game tonight. As Barca only really have the CL to play for, now La Liga is out of reach, they could put on a decent display tonight and show some of you how un-boring they can be biggrin .

If they go for it and tear Chelsea apart then I'll hold my hands up.

Being a United fan I know as well as most how good Barca can be when they're on top of their game, they just need to be like that for more then 5 minutes out of a 90 minute game.

Amazing to see Chel$ki as underdogs instead of spending their way through everyone, but great to see and impressive to have undone Barca with 10 men.

It had everything - even Torres scored yikes

I'm very interested to see how Pep does without Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, etc. There doesn't seem to be a plan B for them when it's going tits up.
