Agree.
We now have players who can chip in with the goals and reduce the burden on him. Only possible concern he may have is defense, as we can score goals but no good if we concede just as many. We let in an awful lot last season, mainly down to injuries and not being able to field the same back 4 for more than 2 games! Maybe he was looking for us to sign another CB or full back. Not entirely sure but I would say we have made the signings to convince him he should stay.
What looks promising is that when you have Arteta, Wilshere, etc all fit along with the new signings, we will actually have a good squad, and can bring on players who could make a difference. There were some games last season where you got the feeling no one on the bench could come on and change the game if things were going wrong.

Made some great signings BUT they are all offensive players and our biggest issue was conceding 49 goals in the Premier League last year....maybe Steve Bould can work wonders on the training ground ? Is Sahin a defensive midfielder ? Having said they I think most of the problem was the cover afforded by our midfield....there were numerous goals scored against us last year where the midfield went to sleep/failed to track back.

He's not defensive as in a classical sense but he doesn't bomb forward he just sits and plays the ball around. Like a Scholes/Carrick/Alonso would do.

^ so true, RVP can hardly accuse Arsenal of a lack of ambition having spent £40m which by my reckoning is more than any other premier league club this summer. Sign the contract RVP or f k off!

That's it Flash. We need to know one way or the other ASAP. If he is lucky enough to stay, he does not deserve to be captain for next season to be honest after rogering us like that with his website statement.
He must be contemplating staying put after the evident change in transfer policy and with the quality we are bringing in. Plus, why go and live in Manchester or Italy? Both are like stepping in a time machine.
If we bring in a quality defensive midfielder and a versatile defender we could have a very good season indeed. I an looking forward to it.

There's a bigger part of me thinking we've stuck by him through his early petulant days and the injuries that are greater than his last seasons efforts. And maybe a few other goals here and there. I think I'll wait and see how the moment takes me IF it happens.

If he does go they'd better spend the entire tranfer fee on replacing him.

I really don't like this RVP to Man utd , How do you explain signing for one of your biggest traditional rivals , Arsenal have done everything right with the player , they have invested in some decent players & offered the man a colosal amount of money to stay & still it's not enough . I would love to see them say b ks to the cash & make him sit in the stands & train with the juniors , Ungrateful dutch f kwit

If he signs for Man U he'll get a very bad reception when he comes back to The Emirates I reckon. Only thing worse could be going up the Seven Sister's Road.
Think Martin Keown/Van Nistelroy, Pizzagate, Vieira/Keane.....
I reckon he started out on this thinking he could go to City and they can't or won't pay up because of FFP....and now he's left with Man U or Juve as his choice.

If they wouldn't pay for the Brazilian Wunderkind then they aint going to stump up £25M (special price to them apparently) for RvP. All the posturing by Taggart is so much transparent mind-gamery.

from the BBC gossip column;
Arsenal will not sell Robin van Persie, 29, for less than £20m and will demand an extra £5m if Manchester United make an offer for the striker. Full story: Daily Mirror
and
Dutchman Van Persie has been offered the same £220,000-a-week contract as the current top earner Wayne Rooney to make the move to Old Trafford. Full story: Daily Telegraph
So, Juve offered 8m...and the offer was rejected.
Utd offered £15m....and Arsenal say they want £25m if he goes to Utd. (If they do offer this, I would take it, tbf.)
So it looks like City wont offer. Juve are out and Arsenal want 5m more if he goes to Utd (plus the £220k per week) Meaning, we either get top dollar for him or we keep him for another year!?!
Win/win!!

Win/win!! Yep agree with your conclusion, just one small detail Arsenal are saying they haven't had an offer from Utd. Can't believe what the Manc rags are reporting.

Utd saying (reported a quote from Fergie..) they have made a bid, and have heard nothing back from Arsenal. Could be unsettling tactics however..
