How many times have you been stopped

I always thought that it was vehicles rather than operators who were traffic lighted?
I was stopped when I innocently drove past a weighbridge near the M1 at Tankersley. I was temporarily prohibited for two loose wheel nuts. No fine or further action as Id checked all of the nuts that morning. It transpired that the vehicle had two damaged studs on one steer, hence their coming loose.
no its operaters, they operate a traffic light system, if your firms red vosa will pull you at every opertunity, firm i work for now went through it with vosa as well, they were red, up before the traffic commisioner etc, how they got around it was sacking the lazy tosspot fitters, and they were bad, and getting a maintenence contract, were on amber now and hopefully green soon, we rarely get a pull nowI was stopped when I innocently drove past a weighbridge near the M1 at Tankersley. The 7.5tonner was a few years old, white and had no company markings on it. I lost count of the amount of police/anti terrorist pulls that I had in central london, I couldnt leave it unattended anywhere for too long either. Must say though that I have always had a giggle with whoever has stopped me and havent come across any of the hitler type bds that others always seem to moan about.
If you really, really care about the VOSA system...

I used to work as a HGV2 driver delivering multidrop around London and the Home counties for about 6 years or so and I was never pulled or had any kind of trouble with the authorities (other than traffic wardens! grrrr..)
In central London you are always fairly safe as where are they going to set upa HGV stop point and not cause chaos ?
Nearest to central London i have seen a stop point is on Blackheath going away from
Deptford as there is a suitable side road available to them.
Used to get stopped regular at the check point Heading towards Newark (bingham iirc).
No markers for the firm, just my st luck that once a week I had that area whilst doing multidrop and on the same day the bloody checkpoint was open.
Last stop was some 10 yrs ago for having no operators licence showing, some beady eyed bugger on the bridge on the A1 spotted me and pulled me into the checkpoint further down the A1.
Looked quite happy with himself until he noticed the HM prison service sticker on the front, yep thats right Home office vehicle and let me on my way.
Never been stopped on nights but they are about at night with checkpoints open.
M6 Cheshire and M25 Reigate way spring to mind.

That one seems to be open daily. It's actually at J9 ,Leatherhead and they have an Officer waiting on clockwise J8-9,
waiting for trucks to stop. They pull a lot of foreigners and have a sinbin for the
transgressors to stop in until put right.
My best stop was back in the 1970's. Got pulled in for a 'routine check'. Plod asked why no road tax and I had to point out that the car was Spanish registered (where we lived at the time). He then asked for insurance so I gave him some Spanish papers that happened to be in the glove box, I had no idea what they were but then neither did he.
The best was that at no time did he notice that as the car was left hand drive he was not talking to the driver.
Wish he had pulled on the way home rather than out. I would have been full of beer!

Parp.
Going onto Vauxhall bridge this morning and Trafpol have a little checkpoint set up
in the buslane for trucks, got pulled in.
Checked my digi tacho card ,asked a few questions ,some of which were obviously testing
whether my details tallyed,"How tall are you ?..Where were you born ?"
and sent me on my way.
He didn't want to do any mechanical checks as it was raining !
It was only MOTed last Friday so shouldn't have had any problems there anyway...

I was driving along last week minding my own business when I was overtaken by a VOSA car.
Quarter of a mile down the road the "FOLLOW ME" light came on. Followed him to the nearby checkpoint.
A quick vehicle check & all was well, BUT he said that the three small concrete lintels half way down the back of the wagon were not strapped down. FFS, they weren't going anywhere, there are metal sides on the wagon. But no, said he. they should be strapped down.
He then told me there is a purge on at the moment but would put it down as advice given.
This was my fourth pull in forty years HGV driving.
Only four years left to go, it can't come quick enough !

Three times in 56 years.
First was in 1962, then again in about 1970. Both of these were for 'a word' about excessive speed.
Most recent was 22 January 2010 at about 0200 for driving at a lot less than the speed limit on the A64 Malton by-pass.
The police officer had noted the very leisurely pace and suspected that I might be driving under the influence etc.
I told him I had a long way to go, and plenty of time, hence the lowish speed. He was happy with that, so it's still zero tickets; but I tell you: there is a god, and he's on my side.
