ok, now 3 times since when i started after passing my test 6 weeks ago. My , dragged out of a field potato bulker has a certain look about it!
You may find that studiously cleaned registration plates, lamps and reflectors takes the edge off that. It isn't so much whether youre dirty, as whether it looks as though you care.Edited by GC8 on Sunday 15th December 11:37

I'm very careful with that. but my tractor unit looks quite "owner driver" (extra lights, bars, bright colours, alloy wheels), and my potato bulker looks like it was found in a field (which it probably was), i do try keep it clean though. I'm asked often if its my own truck. by all the vosa types that have pulled me over, and plenty of the farmers i visit. I think i have a certain look about me. haha.I guess if i keep legal i have nothing to worry about (though i have been told to make sure i get my all clear paperwork, as they didn't give me any last time)

Had you considered that the vehicle/operator may have a red traffic light, meaning that VOSA will stop you whenever they see you?Got another stop check today coming out of the southbound Blackwall tunnel, they sit in their

I got pulled again in January buy VOSA on the A1 and taken to their place on the roundabout near Wetherby.
Reason for the tug ?
No O licence displayed (spot hire vehicle)
Lights checked, weight checked (250kg under),licence checked, we carry logbook, ins cert , letters of authority to travel abroad, green card etc all checked, digicard checked all ok.
The comment from the inspector ?
"You don't take any chances do you ?"
My reply " not paid to take chances, paid to be legal or it costs me money "

Only once in ten years of PSV driving. At Plymouth bus station on a break and two VOSA bods asked if they could have a look around the vehicle. I was confident they'd find nothing wrong, but they gave me an advisory for a door roller that was worn, allowing play in the mechanism. Apparently VOSA don't like pulling in-service PSV's unless there's something obviously wrong - all to do with not delaying passengers.
Been pulled twice in 4x4's though - both times at Nesscliffe on the A5. First time was for a simple red diesel check (which they didn't bother with doing once they realised my Rangie was a petrol V8 ), second time was last year in my Defender, for a full going over by VOSA, HMRC, the Border Agency etc.

In 11 years I've been pulled at least four times, nothing ever major.
- 1am driving around Nottingham in a beat up E30 318is registered in Colchester, apparently the car was "far from home"
- Driving back from my unit in a tuned up/lowered E21 323i around 12am, checked me over for driving an old car late at night
- Missing front number plate on an E36 328i, thanks to my partner losing it the day before! The new number plate was on the back seat and I was on my way to the unit to get it sorted.
- Lastly I got pulled the other weekend in my scruffy 406 estate, we were 4 up with 3 mates in the car and I don't think they had anything better to do on a Sunday morning. Admittedly I had a brake light out BUT they could have only of known that after obviously tailing me. I came across them at a roundabout and accelerated (normally) up a hill, they hadn't been signalling to go my direction (right at the roundabout for them) and then suddenly stormed up behind me further up the road.

No,they're random stops.
Turning off Vauxhall cross onto the bridge you can't see the stop point and they can't see you.
As soon as I turned I knew I was going in as there was a gap and he moved the cones in anticipation.
I also showed them the 2 stop sheets I carry with me .
This time the little hammer came out.
