It's normally fine, although you're right it's not something I would choose to use. I'm in and out of quarries with it every day without getting stuck, the biggest downside of it is a proper diff lock. That in was Ramsgate docks, it's all concrete apart from the bit I sunk in rolleyes

You've hit the nail on the head there. If they want road vehicles in to tip then they need to make it safe. Road orientated tractors have no place in quarries unless they prepare pathways and hard standing and guides for tippers. Just the lack of suspension travel can put you at risk.

I once drove across what had used to be a school playing field, but was now prepared hardcore, with 20t of sub-base. Halfway across I sunk at each corner in turn and when I got out it was down to all four axles! The Barbour Green got stuck trying to tow me out and had to be lifted out later using a massive crane!

I managed to get out by tipping all twenty tonnes in a massive steaming pile whilst being chained by two 360s. The rocket effect made all the difference.

Whilst we're waiting for iva to escape..

I managed to get stuck again yesterday.... on a concrete road in an industrial estate.

There is a gate to the left of that white car, to get on the pipes you have to do a 3 point turn in the yard then get half way back out of the gate again and reverse up. What you can't really see is the steep gradient of the road, its so steep that when its wet you just end up spinning the wheels backwards whilst the lorry slides down the hill. I came out of the gate expecting to reverse back in so didn't set up the angle to drive back down the hill, after sliding forwards I stopped with the tank wheels wedged on the gate. No go forward, no go backward, 3 mixers stuck behind me, 2 tippers infront and a few cars wanting to get down the access road that I was blocking hehe

Chains and a digger to drag it back into the yard with a load of tyre smoke

Perhaps we should have the "lorry got stuck in" thread.

I got pulled out by a 8 wheel Biffa lorry after about 2 hours stuck.

He couldn't pass me so was happy to offer a quick pull from behind.

Still not ready with pics.

It was your front wheel that was the problem, but you know that. Down to the axle, which acted like an anchor.

Lesson: never drive anywhere first without getting out and having a damned good look.

I was told that after the incident i mentioned above with the school playing field but this

week it was move aside and risk it or crash with the van not giving enough space coming the other way.

I had no momentum so went in the hole and stopped.

Bad luck.

Which brings us onto another hard to apply piece of advice: if theyre causing a crash then ensure that you involve them in it as opposed to having an accident with innocent others or on your own avoiding them! biggrin

I bet that youre considering a dashcam now, aren't you?
