Of course, driving a st shifter for £6:50 an hour for a disreputable operator, doing mind numbing runs onterribel jobs would be very, very different and I wouldnt touch it with a stty stick...

lol. I actually have many years ago.

When I started driving a Class 1 the hourly rate was £3.02 an hour, my how things have improved.

I`ve recently enquired about a couple of driving jobs, I was offered £6.71 with OT after 10 hours from one well known company and then £7 an hour straight through from another.

I`d rather pluck pubes from my balls one by one than get up at 4am to do a days work for these bds.

The £2000 for Stobart training is only for cat C and they will not guarantee a job with them
That's too expensive for cat C

Pay rates will not increase until there are more jobs than drivers which means stopping non UK drivers from filling in vacancies in the UK

Many insurers require the driver to have held the category for 2 years and be over age 25

Im must concede that when I refer to 'tippers' Im really only considering (predominately scheme - ie painted in Tarmac or Bardon or similar colours) asphalt tippers.

I grew up in an area which was surrounded by limestone quarries and the standard of driving was excellent.

There is a limitless supply of Eastern European migrants and the way rival company's slash rates
To get work off each other it doesn't look good I think wages in most occupations are and will continue to
be driven down due to migrants from low wage economy's willingness to work for our in there eyes genenerous
minimum wage ..

I am disappoint! I used to go with my uncle for a week in the summer hols for a weeks adventure in his truck when I was a nipper. I love trucks, I want to be a truck driver but as a business its fked! I have my own (unrelated) business now, but I always keep an eye on the haulage game and think 'yeah maybe one day..'
I can't believe it's so bad now, it's really sad

OP, what area do you live in, from personal experience that can depend on quality of work, my advice for you is to visit trucknet, also when you are at motorway services buy Commercial motor, that will give you an idea of training schools and prices, I would try to self fund your way through, what ever liscence you get hit the agency's October onwards, as the Xmas rush gets underway a lot of the big firms will lower the standerds, so you will start getting experience, at my last job ( DHL) they took a few drivers on with no experience.

Not hard with a good dose of reality. For every decent (or half decent!) job there is then there are five where operator will happily sack everyone and employ Eastern Europeans at NMW at most, with no overtime allowance. Theyll be looking for ways to pay less when the Romanians et al come, too, as theyll work for it.

LOL , contented bunch aren't they . If I mentioned working 6 months of the year and earning a six figure wage driving a truck I'd probably be ridiculed ,so best keep quiet laugh.
