So much for the 50 limit on s/c. Got stuck behind a Stobrat/Tesco combo on York ring road earlier who was happy to boot it away from every roundabout like a scalded cat, right up to the point of reaching 39mph and then wouldn't do a single mph more. Clearly they haven't got the message yet. rolleyes No chance of going round him as I was in an Iveco 17 tonner auto with 9 tonne of papers in the back. grumpy

JUST GET OUT OF MY WAY! [/Clarkson]

Did they change the law to say you have to do 50? Also it seems a bit of a gray area if it's posted as 50 weather its 50 or 40 because all they are saying is national speed limits nothing about 50mph s/c zones

Not that clear from your post.
Are you saying a NSL its 50
But if your on a 50 mph road then it's a grey area 40/50 mph ?

Is it not a case that even though they can legally do 50mph, it may be company policy to do 38/40mph to save fuel?

NSL for hgv has increased from 40 to 50 on s/c. But on the old limits, sign posted 50 was 40 for hgvs. nothing in the new speed laws does it state ( of what I can see) that there is an increase for hgvs from 40 to 50 in posted 50 s/c. The new laws say there is a increase on national speed limits, the only thing other that they say, it's up to local authorities to restrict speeds for all vehicles if they wish to restrict hgvs.

Not sure if you're confused or your post is confused?
No, no one said you have to do 50, no GREY area either, the change in reference to NSL s/c is that where we were restricted to 40 when in 50 or full NSL stretches we can now do up to 50 ,where appropriate, not all the time!
When on a D/C we can now do 60 instead of 50. Yes I know we have limiters set up to 56 but the law allows us up to 60 still so we can use some gradient to our advantage or alternatively drive an Irish V8 Scania and not have to worry about finding a hill, or a rest stop, or my actual digi card, or any of the several charts I prepared earlier.......
I share Jazzes frustration, I think his main point was that these drivers will leg it away from a roundabout knowing fine well they will end up holding every one up instead of just easing away and letting a few past, or maybe staying at around 35 for a short distance to let others past instead of driving like a selfish twit.
When the limit was 40 I would generally get to a short stretch of D/C, such as those in the Lakes or in the run up to a major roundabout and stay at 40 to let others past as I am never in a hurry, lifes too short and I've got too many miles to go to get stressed.
Hope that helps if you are confused Mobi, no offense if you weren't though fella.........

Exactly that. They do it on purpose 'cause they're sad s and get off on the tiny bit of 'power' they have. He was quite happy to come past me on the A64 when he barely had 1mph on me so clearly in a rush to get to his Tesco shop yet soon as we get on the single track he's now got all the time in the world to drag the arse out of the job.

To those questioning the speed limit, it's NSL all round that section of the York ring road with clear straight roads for miles between the roundabouts so absolutely no reason not to be doing 50.

Posted 50 limits were 40 for LGVs simply because 40 was NSL for LGVS. Posted limit or NSL whichever is lowest. Now the NSL is 50 the LGVs can do 50.

I feel a sense of depression and dread every time I see a Tesco lorry looming ahead of me.

They're not the only ones, ASDA, Walkers Crisps, Argos, DHL depending on which contract they're on. Tesco do seen to the main culprits though.

Especially when you see the indicator go on and the back end of a Wiseman appear, knowing it will take them about 3 weeks to complete the overtake!!!
