Mate of mine says he's used Dover a couple of times over the last few weeks and the boats have been going out with plenty of spare capacity.Stack lifted this morning , but the next busy day is usually Wednesdays of each week so I would expect it to be back in place then , also all the rest of schools finish on the 23rd with all the implications that brings .

Just driven back from Dover after holiday in France, I feel sorry for all the guys stuck in their trucks on the M20. It looks like they are going to spend a long time stuck there.
Just as the ferry I was on left Calais (45 min late due to earlier disruption), the crew from the 2 MyFerrylink ships were sailing around the port in some of the lifeboats. Not sure if they were trying to disrupt port movements or just make a point that they were still there.
Noticed DFDS were now loading/ unloading in Calais, thought they were staying away from Calais so the port stayed open?

There is a lot of grumbling locally about the disruption of everyday life in the local area , many journeys on local roads that would normally take 15-20 mins are now taking a couple of hours .
Many local events near the M20 are looking at being disrupted or poorly attended due to problems moving about the county .

Possibly daft question that was touched on earlier. Why do trunk companies not use the other ports in the south east while stack is on ? Is it a cost issue cheaper to have a driver in Stack for 4\5 hours than the cost of crossing the channel elsewhere ? Or capacity at other ports ? Wondered is it something else ?

A few things affect this:-The longer the crossing the higher the fare and the productivity time of the truck is reduced.
The driver may have an issue with driving or working hours at some point in his week due to longer crossing.
If you sail to a more southerly port that is fine if you were going south but if you were not then its added miles/time etc
These things do around 10mpg and tyres last maybe 150,000 on drive axle so every mile run is huge cost.
